maxiskane (Oct 20, 2005 6:11:29 PM)
We'll be talking about The Sims 2 for GBA, DS, mobile, and PSP right now

MaxisLakshmi (Oct 20, 2005 6:12:00 PM)
Hello :)

MaxisBim (Oct 20, 2005 6:12:05 PM)
hi!!

MaxisShanti (Oct 20, 2005 6:12:09 PM)
Hi all ~

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:12:35 PM)
hi!

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:12:40 PM)
Afternoon everyone!

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 6:12:49 PM)
Welcome, all!

maxiskane (Oct 20, 2005 6:15:36 PM)
Scot and JoAnna are here early too so we'll take console questions as well.

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 6:16:54 PM)
Hey there I was wording what the difrent's in make The SIms for the computer -hand held

MaxisBim (Oct 20, 2005 6:16:54 PM)
On the Nintendo DS for example we have a real time clock, and a bunch of NDS only action like a music maker that you can create your own tunes and ringtones and even trade. You can also create your own art and trade those with friends, you have a metal detector to find items in the desert and a cool vacuum minigame

Goofy-about-GOOPY! (Oct 20, 2005 6:17:24 PM)
like so who's idea was it to put sims 2 on consoles

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:17:24 PM)
Greetings! With such a huge community that loves The Sims, we wanted to bring a unique, new experience to every possible player out there. So it was definitely a company-wide decision to take the Sims2 to everywhere people would want to play. :)

karen (Oct 20, 2005 6:17:29 PM)
Which console has the best graphics?

rockNrollfruit (Oct 20, 2005 6:17:47 PM)
How will you purchase TS2 for your mobile phone?

MaxisShanti (Oct 20, 2005 6:17:47 PM)
You will be able to purchase The Sims 2 mobile game from your cell phone carrier's "deck". This is typically accessible directly from your cell phone handset.

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:18:19 PM)
Hi guys! :) The graphics across the main three console versions (PS2, Gamecube and X-Box) are pretty similar actually. We support 720p on the X-Box so that console probably wins by a tiny margin, but all three look great IMHO.

DoggySpew (Oct 20, 2005 6:18:27 PM)
Okay, now I don' t have any handheld portables right now. So which version Sims2 do you recommend if I bought one?

MaxisBim (Oct 20, 2005 6:18:27 PM)
Well it depends on what you like...my vote in for the DS...you can play the Sims 2 DS...which is awesome and you can play GBA games as well

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 6:19:00 PM)
what is your favorite thing on the sims 2 console?

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 6:19:00 PM)
There are tons of gameplay elements, features, and objects specific to console that I enjoy. The food creation system is specific to Xbox, Gamecube, and Playstation 2 -- it allows your Sims to collect ingredients from the world and combine them to make unique foods with different effects.

DoggySpew (Oct 20, 2005 6:19:31 PM)
Any plans for making versions for the "NextGen" consoles ?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:19:31 PM)
I'm sure we'll definitely be looking to all possible future platforms, but we've not announced any specific plans yet. We'd love to now what a "next gen console" sims game should be from your perspectives too.

bettybabysim (Oct 20, 2005 6:19:36 PM)
What do PC gamers have to envy from Console versions?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:19:36 PM)
On Xbox, Ps2 and Gamevube we've added a bunch of cool features. You can now directly control your Sim in the world for the first time inside the simulator, we have a new fashion creation system, a new food creation system and a bunch of other small touches like making Sims more aware of things in their environment like steroes, TVs and trash. :)

SimFreak3243 (Oct 20, 2005 6:20:40 PM)
Thanks for being here today, The DS, PSP and GBA games seem to have more storyline than the pc version do you agree? (did u answer that already cos i accidently closed the chat)

MaxisBim (Oct 20, 2005 6:20:40 PM)
hanhelds provide a different playing experience and i wouldn't necessarily agree that there's more story across the board...there are shipping neighborhoods in the PC ;) Anyway the DS is quite open-ended once you get through with the tutorial

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 6:20:49 PM)
Are there any new townies with funny names in the console versions?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:20:49 PM)
There are at least thirty new Sims in the console versions all of whom have unique personalities, wants and fears and.... goofy names too.

magicgnome21 (Oct 20, 2005 6:21:15 PM)
when you made the sims 2 for Console did you make it the saem way you didm for the sims 2 on the computer

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:21:15 PM)
Actually we rebuilt the primary game technology custom per console; but we used the same wants/fears/aspiration system and mainly the same simulator that PC uses for consistency.

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 6:21:58 PM)
Hi I love ya'll and I was just wondering since the past few sims handheald games have had a little story to it what would this one be or if there isnt one....then whatever

MaxisLakshmi (Oct 20, 2005 6:21:58 PM)
Each handheld has its own story, all taking place in Strangetown. On the GBA you get to star in a hidden camera reality TV show. On the DS you get to take over the town hotel. And on the PSP you uncover all the town's wacky secrets.

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 6:22:07 PM)
with PS2 and XBOX can we play online with other people?

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 6:22:07 PM)
No, sorry, we don't have online play, but we do offer two player so you can a pal over and play together that way!

MotayJones77 (Oct 20, 2005 6:22:12 PM)
what about the graphics for the mobile phones?

MaxisShanti (Oct 20, 2005 6:22:12 PM)
The graphics on the mobile version are something we worked hard at and O

thomas (Oct 20, 2005 6:22:34 PM)
when do the games come out?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:22:34 PM)
Next week we are launching PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, DS, and GBA - we ship them out on 10/24 so they could be on shelves anytime after that in North America. Those will be in Europe the first week of Novemeber.

arndutcas (Oct 20, 2005 6:23:36 PM)
Will there be any familiar characters from the PC version of the Sims2 on the console/hand held versions?

MaxisBim (Oct 20, 2005 6:23:36 PM)
YES!!! On different handhelds you'll find the Goths, Tank Grunt, Bella Goth specifically, The Smiths, and lots of surprises you may or may not be familiar with

kollormn (Oct 20, 2005 6:24:10 PM)
Can you tell us some of the new objects in the console games that are not in the PC series?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:24:10 PM)
For PS2/Xbox/NGC - we have 350 new objects. some of the coolest ones are an "Aspiration Genie" who can grant good OR bad wishes depending on your mood; a super-cool programmable robo-massage-table; and in-game costume trunk that lets you try on various cool costume skins, to name just a few.

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 6:24:59 PM)
Is Goopy in the console games? I can't play without him!

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 6:24:59 PM)
Put on your dancing shoes because, yes, Goopy is indeed in the console versions :)

MaxisShanti (Oct 20, 2005 6:25:37 PM)
Sorry about that...the graphics on the mobile version are set in an isometric world which may remind you a bit of Sims 1 but, if you look closely you'll likely recognize a bunch of objects and assets we took from the Sims 2 PC.

smiley7700 (Oct 20, 2005 6:25:37 PM)
How does the trading work and is it for all consoles or just the DS as you mentioned earlier.Trading markets???

MaxisBim (Oct 20, 2005 6:25:37 PM)
On DS, off the main menu you have a trading option and you may trade your own music and art creations. PSP you may clone a friend's Sim and trade possessions. On mobile you can trade with NPC's but not other players.

David (Oct 20, 2005 6:25:39 PM)
How long did it take to create the Sims2 for Ps2 ect...

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:25:39 PM)
It took about a year to build all the new content and systems for the console versions but we were building on a foundation of design and engineering that stretches back several years

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 6:26:37 PM)
Is the sims 2 available on mobile in the UK?

MaxisShanti (Oct 20, 2005 6:26:37 PM)
Yes! The Sims 2 for mobile will be available in the UK in early December.

salrap10 (Oct 20, 2005 6:26:41 PM)
when does the mobile phone sims 2 game comes out?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:26:41 PM)
Mobile depends on the carrier, but by the end of November/early December they should all be available. PSP is slated for early December as well.

PugLove888 (Oct 20, 2005 6:27:28 PM)
Will there be genetics in the Sims 2 console version like there is in the PC version?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:27:28 PM)
The first thing on console, when you're making your own new character, is a genetics "slot machine" - where your grandparents and then your parents are algorithmically generated and then they spawn your character!

SimFreak3243 (Oct 20, 2005 6:27:43 PM)
I have a DS whats it all about?

MaxisBim (Oct 20, 2005 6:27:43 PM)
Basically, your car breaks down in a desert and a Strangetown is the only thing around...you in essence become the hotel manager in this town and you're able to build and customize it. There's a new social game that makes things interesting in addition to all the great minigames and surprises

Joepic19 (Oct 20, 2005 6:27:56 PM)
Why aren't we able to create houses with two stories in any of the console games? Will we ever be able to?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:27:56 PM)
All the console versions work with a limited amount of memory meaning houses have a maximum size - we could make it possible to add a second level but it would halve the size of your base level which we felt made it feel too small. Also, the more complex UI and the control pad (versus a mouse and keyboard) mean that it could be very confusing and unwieldy. That said, the new consoles are pretty cool so I see no reason it wont happen in the future!

sim me (Oct 20, 2005 6:28:17 PM)
The ghost town in the previews is way cool. It seemed you could control the ghost as well?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:28:17 PM)
Absolutely! You can totally play as a ghost on console. YOu walk through walls, through objects, and can even haunt other sims! Then you have to compete in a fiddle challenge with The Grim Reapear in order to come back to live! (or you can pay him off) ;)

raye1 (Oct 20, 2005 6:28:34 PM)
what format do each of you prefer and why?

MaxisBim (Oct 20, 2005 6:28:34 PM)
the one we work on, of course!

karen (Oct 20, 2005 6:28:49 PM)
Will there be expansions for the console games as well? or will you have to start your game from scratch without your exsisting created sims?

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 6:28:49 PM)
Unlike PC, which has expansion packs that build on the base game, console games are standalone -- that's just how console games are. Which each Sims game we make for console, we take the best and most appropriate elements of the previous ones and meld them into the new gameplay.

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 6:29:28 PM)
Will there be goals or aspiration rewards like in the sims 2 for PC?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:29:29 PM)
The PS2, Xbox and Gamecube versions all have a huge number of objects in the catalog, many of which are initially locked. By completing wants and avoiding fears you'll earn aspiration points to unlock new objects which you can then buy! Also, holding a high aspiration meter slows the decay of your basic needs.

cookiebob5 (Oct 20, 2005 6:29:54 PM)
Does the chicken you get to play checkers against have a name?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:29:54 PM)
Yuppers - Professor Feathers; a very highly educated chicken, indeed.

cookiebob5 (Oct 20, 2005 6:29:58 PM)
What's the deal with being an actor on the GBA versions? It seems kinda weird...

MaxisLakshmi (Oct 20, 2005 6:29:58 PM)
Daddy Bigbucks is trying to break into the reality tv craze. He has taken over Strangetown and placed hidden cameras all over town. The only problem is it's not very interesting. :) He needs a star. That's why he hires your Sim. And creates strange circumstances for your Sim to prove their hero qualities.

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 6:30:06 PM)
Is gameplay going to be different from the previous gameboy/console games (with which i was rather disappointed with)?

MaxisBim (Oct 20, 2005 6:30:07 PM)
We're in 3D for starters...there's an all new social game...there are different goals and game design inherent to each platform...as well as platform specific features...should be fun for you the player

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 6:30:20 PM)
when does the chat end?

maxiskane (Oct 20, 2005 6:30:20 PM)
The chat ends at 4PM PT

Charley-fool (Oct 20, 2005 6:30:50 PM)
Is it true that you can set the camera to follow your sim around (right behind him/her)?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:30:50 PM)
Yes! Direct control is a big new feature on console and makes you feel more ownership of your character. You can still switch to 'classic' cursor mode but driving your Sims around is a really new way to play.

bugnut (Oct 20, 2005 6:31:15 PM)
Are there new social interactions, too?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:31:15 PM)
There are LOADS of new socials on console... each with different positive or negative reactions (and some with multiple versions) depending on moods, relationships, etc. We have an entire new social game for console. It's awesome

Brad34thesim (Oct 20, 2005 6:31:34 PM)
Are there hidden easter eggs in the DS version?

MaxisBim (Oct 20, 2005 6:31:34 PM)
Yes there are!

thumper92 (Oct 20, 2005 6:31:48 PM)
are there cheat codes for the console and mobile games?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:31:48 PM)
We definitely have cheat codes on console... but those will be released later on. :)

DoggySpew (Oct 20, 2005 6:32:49 PM)
Why are the console versions (as well as the handhelds) so mission based ?

cookiebob5 (Oct 20, 2005 6:32:49 PM)
In the screenshots for the console versions it looks like they're on an island. In The Sims2 you can choose different terrains for the neighborhoods and pick whether they're grassy or barren deserts. Will we be able to do this for the console versions, too?

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 6:32:49 PM)
There are 12 story-based locations that are all entirely different. They range from an alien crash site in the desert to an abandoned film lot to the inside of a biodome. There are also four freeplay locations that you can move a family onto and play in a more freeform manner.

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:32:49 PM)
Well, the Ps2, X-Box and Gamecube offer both modes - a freeplay mode which closely resembles the PC and a more mission based mode. The reason we included these environments was to provide a long term challenge beyond just creating your own stories. The goals are also very integrated into the Wants and Fears this year so they feel very natural. Essentially we're offering two games in one so if you don't feel like playing the missions then you can just enjoy freeplay!

SimFreak3243 (Oct 20, 2005 6:32:50 PM)
How do u control the sims in DS version do u tell them where to go or can u control them with the d-pad etc?

MaxisBim (Oct 20, 2005 6:32:50 PM)
Direct control, your dpad does all the work...and in fact controls what your Sim does, who they talk to, what they buy, etc

Bops235 (Oct 20, 2005 6:32:59 PM)
Will we be able 2 play the game on xbox 360?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:32:59 PM)
we're not currently releasing an Xbox360 version, only PS2, Xbox, GameCube, DS, and GBA. But, on PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube you can play 2 player, split-screen, simultaneously.

karen (Oct 20, 2005 6:33:27 PM)
Do you guys even realize how addicting the sims is!!!?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:33:27 PM)
Yes! ;)

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 6:33:41 PM)
is it a cool game?

MaxisBim (Oct 20, 2005 6:33:41 PM)
Of course...all the games are cool: GBA, DS, PSP, MOBILE...I mean we are talking about the Sims

thumper92 (Oct 20, 2005 6:34:26 PM)
will the game use up mobile time minutes..?

MaxisShanti (Oct 20, 2005 6:34:26 PM)
The mobile game won't use minutes but, the Connected Edition does have options for downloading additional content over the air. Some carriers may charge for the data transfer, some may not. We don't charge for it :)

cookiebob5 (Oct 20, 2005 6:34:36 PM)
Describe how making your own recipes work.

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:34:36 PM)
The food creation game is intense on console. With 65+ ingredients, and some hidden ones, you can pick any 4 at one time. You then have 7 different ways of combining (in a blender, on a stove, preparing 'em raw first...) and in the end, you can mix & match them to find the perfect balance of hunger fulfillment as well as making your OWN power-ups with special effects (such as make people fall in love, even make them sick!).

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 6:34:45 PM)
Is it difficult to maneuver on Mobile?

MaxisShanti (Oct 20, 2005 6:34:46 PM)
You can play the mobile game with one thumb!

Ilvdsms2 (Oct 20, 2005 6:34:55 PM)
I love TS2 and I"m proud! (just like to say that...)

maxiskane (Oct 20, 2005 6:34:55 PM)
Thanks!

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 6:35:10 PM)
Are there a lot new clothes in these consoles/handheld?

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 6:35:11 PM)
Yes, we aboslutely have a bunch of new clothes, hair styles, accessories, and more available for you to create all sorts of diverse Sims!

karen (Oct 20, 2005 6:35:20 PM)
Will there be a thing that randomly chooses names for your sims for those times when we just cant think of a decent name?

MaxisBim (Oct 20, 2005 6:35:20 PM)
I think the default is usually Sim...I think we all can think of a better name for our Sim. :)

RoseJewelz (Oct 20, 2005 6:35:48 PM)
Is the building mode for the console versions any easier than previously released games for The Sims?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:35:48 PM)
We've added some new tools and TONS of new pieces to build with. Every location that ships with the game, we made oursleves with these same tools. :) We actually just did a "designer challenge" and had our lead challenge our chief level builder. The results should be online next week or so on Gamespot.

Proud (Oct 20, 2005 6:36:00 PM)
what kind of food options do you have to customize the food your sims make?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:36:00 PM)
On Ps2, Xbox and Gamecube we have a complete simulated food system which lets you create literally hundreds of different food stuffs depending on the ingredients you choose and whether you use the stove, counter or blender.

kollormn (Oct 20, 2005 6:36:27 PM)
What about the graphics on mobile? Are they pretty good? Or will it depend on the phone you have?

MaxisShanti (Oct 20, 2005 6:36:27 PM)
The graphics will depend somewhat on what phone you have but, I think you'll be pleased with what we've managed to pack onto a mobile device.

kollormn (Oct 20, 2005 6:36:38 PM)
Oh gosh I cant even imagine how fun your job is! Getting to do nothing but talk and plan and play the sims all day.....i would be in heaven i think

MaxisBim (Oct 20, 2005 6:36:38 PM)
We do get hungry and thirsty and dirty and tired though.

Nani (Oct 20, 2005 6:37:29 PM)
how does the layer (clothes) option work?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:37:29 PM)
You choose all three layers - a basic t-shirt or shirt, an over shirt and then a jacket, then you choose the pattern you want for each and how you want to wear them (sleeves up or down, collar up or doan) and the console takes care of the rest!

MaxisBim (Oct 20, 2005 6:37:44 PM)
Got to go folks

MaxisBim (Oct 20, 2005 6:37:48 PM)
Over and Out!

LuDog (Oct 20, 2005 6:37:48 PM)
How the sims on the mobile phone going to work?

MaxisShanti (Oct 20, 2005 6:37:48 PM)
You'll be able to download the game from your carrier and install it onto your phone.

cookiebob5 (Oct 20, 2005 6:38:13 PM)
I don't understand how the whole 'directly control your sim' works. How is it different from what we already do with our sims?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:38:13 PM)
Right now, you can tell your sims what you want them to do by pointing and clicking on an object or another character. In Console, you can now take over one - like possessing the sim - and use the thumbstick to directly move them through the area! They can run up to any object or person to interact with it by clicking a button. It's INCREDIBLY easy to use and helps make sims on console more accessible to traditional console game play. It also adds some efficicency game play - so you can directly put out fires, pick up trash, or vacuum your hours in about 10 seconds instead of 10 mins!

LegoLover200 (Oct 20, 2005 6:38:20 PM)
How many charecters can we have in Free Play mode on the PS2/Xbox/GameCube?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:38:20 PM)
You can have up to eight families of up to four Sims each!

maxiskane (Oct 20, 2005 6:38:21 PM)
Bim and Lakshmi are signing off. But Scot, Alex, JoAnna, and Shanti are still here to answer questions.

MaxisLakshmi (Oct 20, 2005 6:38:27 PM)
It was great talking with you all! :)

PugLove888 (Oct 20, 2005 6:38:29 PM)
Thank you for bringing all of us so much joy! All the Sims games are great! Will their be toddlers and teens in the new console game?

MaxisLakshmi (Oct 20, 2005 6:38:43 PM)
Have a great day!

Bops235 (Oct 20, 2005 6:38:46 PM)
Are there new kisses?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:38:46 PM)
We have MANY new types of kisses, flirts, hugs, teases... and even marriage proposals on console!

thumper92 (Oct 20, 2005 6:38:50 PM)
mixisShanti..if you could be any known sim character, who would it be?

MaxisShanti (Oct 20, 2005 6:38:50 PM)
Mrs. Crumplebottom :)

RoseJewelz (Oct 20, 2005 6:39:02 PM)
What is the biggest change for The Sims 2 on console versus The Sims 2 PC?

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 6:39:02 PM)
One significant difference between the console game and the PC game is direct control on the console -- it allows you to control your Sims in a much more personal way. In direct control, you can also socialize with Sims in a new way that's totally focused on two Sims at a time so that you can build relationships more effectively with a closer view of the action.

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 6:39:17 PM)
Does Will Wright like how The Sims is branching out so much? I never dreamed it would be available on cell phones!

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:39:17 PM)
Will's a constant influence on our plans. We also present ideas to him for input, feedback, and guidance.

Ilvdsms2 (Oct 20, 2005 6:39:19 PM)
Do your parents approve of your job? (mine wouldn't)

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:39:19 PM)
Haha yes mine do. And if they knew how much hard work we do and how rewarding it can be, then yours would approve of it also!

cookiebob5 (Oct 20, 2005 6:40:07 PM)
How does split-screen work? I mean, if the two sims you are controlling interact with eachother, do you get to pick their reaction?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:40:07 PM)
For social interactions, it is still a one-way affair - but both players can cancel out of the interaction if they don't want to play. But otherwise, they're totally independent so one can be cleaning or starting fires while the other is socializing with another NPC.

thumper92 (Oct 20, 2005 6:40:33 PM)
is there anything you wish could have been added to the console or mobile?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:40:33 PM)
There are always things we'd love to add when we run out of time but I really think the Sims 2 for console is the best console version yet and has a bunch of cool features that PC players will like as well.

cookiebob5 (Oct 20, 2005 6:40:37 PM)
Can you raise gardens? I swear I will love you guys forever if there are gardens in the game!

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 6:40:37 PM)
There are different means of collecting ingredients, including vegetable hutches, fruit trees, aquariums, and a few ways that we'll leave for you to discover :)

MaxisShanti (Oct 20, 2005 6:40:49 PM)
Everyone needs a gnome. We got 'em in the mobile game.

karen (Oct 20, 2005 6:41:32 PM)
I think people underestimate all the hard work you guys have to do, its not all fun and games is it?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:41:32 PM)
We work a lot of long hours and it can be very stressful to keep the level of quality high but I love my job and wouldn't do anything else. :)

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 6:42:16 PM)
It must be fun creating these games! What is your favorite part of the game?

karen (Oct 20, 2005 6:42:16 PM)
I love the sims so much that i use the pictures for school projects!!! teachers are very impressed!

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:42:16 PM)
It's a stunningly fun job where you get to work with incredibly talented and cool people. I can't imagine doing anything else. Favorite part of the game? Wow... the Fashion Designer in Create-a-sim is amazing this year. The Direct Control makes it very accessible and easy to take your sims where you want to without having to wait for them to figure it out. The food creation's one of my faves - being able to make dinner that fills hunger, satisfies fun, and boosts my skills temporarily? Top-notch game play! :)

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 6:42:16 PM)
That's great! We love it when people come up with unique ways to play the game and use the tools.

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 6:43:39 PM)
Thank you so much for making the game of my dreams! I love it so much i decorate my room with sims things, and i have a website based on sims! So thanks so much, and now you are making it for like every system!

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:43:39 PM)
That's totally ...uh... fantistic! :)

arndutcas (Oct 20, 2005 6:44:30 PM)
Will you still be able to import real life objects onto the game by using EYEtoy?

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 6:44:30 PM)
You can take a picture of whatever you want with the EyeToy. The images appear on specific objects such as posters and you can even have your Sims paint portraits of your EyeToy images.

Lukie (Oct 20, 2005 6:44:33 PM)
Ahahahahehe. Can you name your FAVOURITE wacky thing in the sims 2 on console?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:44:33 PM)
I love the hidden food items you can find by tending specific objects like the frood tree. I also like the SIms awareness of their environment and how they wave their hands at their noses and get dirtier if they stand in trash.

keller (Oct 20, 2005 6:44:34 PM)
Will all mobiles support the game?

MaxisShanti (Oct 20, 2005 6:44:34 PM)
The mobile game will be available for a very wide range of devices but, unfortunately, we cannot make it run on absolutely every one. If you've bought a new handset in the last two or three years though, chances are you'll be able to get the game!

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 6:45:08 PM)
What console would you prefer for the best graphics

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:45:09 PM)
The Xbox supports true 720p HDTV and is really gorgeous on a HDTV. The gamecube's rendering technology this year is really cool too. PS2 has awesome special effects and they all run at great framerate.

thumper92 (Oct 20, 2005 6:45:33 PM)
so....any llamas..inthe game..?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:45:33 PM)
Why yes there are!

arndutcas (Oct 20, 2005 6:45:40 PM)
Will your Sims be able to own cars (like in bustin' out?)

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 6:45:40 PM)
Sims in the console game won't own cars, but there are a variety of cars that take them to their jobs.

racha923 (Oct 20, 2005 6:45:42 PM)
Are there community lots that you can visit and shop at?

MaxisShanti (Oct 20, 2005 6:45:42 PM)
Yes, there is a community lot in the mobile game where you can buy and sell objects, meet interesting new Sims, and other good stuff.

TJSimulation (Oct 20, 2005 6:46:03 PM)
First, you guys are so cool! Second, In the console/handheld versions of The Sims, will they have Cinematic Moments like in the PC version?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:46:03 PM)
Thanks! You guys rock, too. The PS2, XBox and Gamecube versions have a really cool intro movie and an end movie for the Story Mode for those players who help fulfill the life ambitions of all the Sims in the game...

Nani (Oct 20, 2005 6:46:30 PM)
What kind of degree do we need to get a job like yours?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:46:31 PM)
haha depends entirely on which part of the business you want to be in. Production, Design, Engineering, Audio, Web, Testing, or Art - all have different requirements. Some of our best programmers don't actually have degrees but were self-taught!

Charley-fool (Oct 20, 2005 6:47:21 PM)
Im really anxious to play it now!

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:47:21 PM)
Awesome! We can't wait to hear what you think about it!

karen (Oct 20, 2005 6:47:34 PM)
Will the PS2 console be similar to the original the sims on PS2?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:47:34 PM)
The new version is MUCH more advanced. MOre features, more objects, better graphics, more SIms on screen at once, food creation, fashion creation, new control modes and more!

pressedlee (Oct 20, 2005 6:48:00 PM)
what are some of the ingredients for the food

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:48:00 PM)
We have all types... some of my favorites include Mangosteens - very exotic fruit, White Truffles, and there's even a Golden Egg you can... um... win. :)

ANKEWI2 (Oct 20, 2005 6:48:10 PM)
I love these sims and now yall have made me want to get my gamecube back. What would we have done without our sims? thank you for these games

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:48:10 PM)
I hope you go dig out your Gamecube again! I love all my consoles. :)

EJ (Oct 20, 2005 6:48:25 PM)
hello. For the xbox version, will there be a limit as to how many objects you can have in your house and how many stories your house can have becaueof memory?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:48:25 PM)
There are limitations for building and buying objects - it's the "fire code" and is different in each location.

karen (Oct 20, 2005 6:48:33 PM)
Will you ever have a place online where fans can submit there expansion ideas? After all, you make the game for us!

maxiskane (Oct 20, 2005 6:48:33 PM)
There is a suggest an idea section of the BBS you that we read.

Charley-fool (Oct 20, 2005 6:48:34 PM)
Im extremley impressed with the stunning graphics of sims 2, and how amazing your creativity has been into this game

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 6:48:34 PM)
Thank you very, very much!

RoseJewelz (Oct 20, 2005 6:49:14 PM)
How's the music for the console versions?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:49:14 PM)
Awesome! There are some familiar tunes as well as dozens of new ones all by your familiar much-loved Maxis sound folk!

Lukie (Oct 20, 2005 6:49:39 PM)
Have you played the game yet? If so, whats the most disgusting food you created? As in the trailer, the squid part looked pretty gross to me.

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:49:39 PM)
The squid's great for an energy boost, but if not prepared properly can make your sims sick! As for the most disgusting... wow... if you combine 2 certain types of fish with yogurt and fauxlestra oil.. then prepare it "raw"... it wreaks HAVOC on anyone who eats it! :)

ANKEWI2 (Oct 20, 2005 6:49:58 PM)
Will these games have cheats--simmers love to cheat!

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:49:58 PM)
Oh yeah - we have plenty of cheast lined up. :)

kollormn (Oct 20, 2005 6:50:04 PM)
How much memory will it take up on Ps2 and Game cube?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:50:04 PM)
We use as much of it was we can! We've tried to push both consoles as far as they can go. Hopefully you'll ber impressed. :)

jlynna11 (Oct 20, 2005 6:50:41 PM)
What kind of objects can you sell?!

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 6:50:41 PM)
Besides being able to sell any of the objects you put on each location, you can also create and paintings as well as design video games for money!

SimFreak3243 (Oct 20, 2005 6:50:51 PM)
How long will it take to get the transcripts up?

maxiskane (Oct 20, 2005 6:50:51 PM)
The transcripts will be up within an hour of the chat.

maxiskane (Oct 20, 2005 6:51:07 PM)
We've got about 15 minutes left!

jlynna11 (Oct 20, 2005 6:51:21 PM)
Are there any major things that will make playing the SIM2 on one of the other platforms than on the PC better?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:51:21 PM)
They're amazingly similar experiences at a core level - wants/fears/aspirations/personalities, etc. But they have really different ways to play! There are things the PC does that are exclusive to PC; but console also has exclusive features like our Fashion Designer, Food Creation, and Direct Control so there's so much that's familiar to hard-core sims fans, and still all new ways to play with our favorite game.

Nani (Oct 20, 2005 6:51:39 PM)
I think you guys should put animals in future games. I would love for my sims to have a hamster like me!

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:51:39 PM)
Great idea! Thanks for the suggestion!

jlynna11 (Oct 20, 2005 6:51:45 PM)
In your opinion, what is the best objects for the new console games??

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:51:45 PM)
I'm a big fan of the new anti-grav spad, the costume trunk, the herb garden, the 'sprouch' couch.

cookiebob5 (Oct 20, 2005 6:52:04 PM)
Will you have to feed the chicken that plays checkers?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:52:04 PM)
Nah, Professor Feathers is smart enough to take care of himself. :)

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 6:52:35 PM)
Herself! :)

Charley-fool (Oct 20, 2005 6:52:37 PM)
Are there many different actions that you can do to pecific objects, such as things that you could never do on the pc version

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:52:37 PM)
absolutely, all the objects are new and there are many secret interactions. try to get several people on the couch when they're in love, or try watering your 'sprouch couch every day for a while...

evildude (Oct 20, 2005 6:52:44 PM)
is there still a heart shaped bed?

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 6:52:44 PM)
We definitely have a heart-shaped bed -- it's twinkly and we think you'll get a big kick out of it when you try it out :)

nynrvns84 (Oct 20, 2005 6:53:05 PM)
will you be able to EAT the chicken?? hehehe

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:53:05 PM)
no but if you beat himat checkers you might be able to eat something else....

fire-boy (Oct 20, 2005 6:53:24 PM)
my sim all ways gets burned

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:53:24 PM)
Make sure you have a smoke-alarm in your kitchens so the fire department shows up early! But in console, if they DO get burned, they turn into ghosts you can control and bring back to life so the adventure continues!

cookiebob5 (Oct 20, 2005 6:53:46 PM)
The golden egg? I'm on to you...

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:53:46 PM)
:)

Charley-fool (Oct 20, 2005 6:54:08 PM)
What will the neighbour hoods be like, will it be like the pc version? and is it possible to edit your neighbourhoods like the pc version as well?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:54:08 PM)
there are sixteen different locations all with their own backdrops and features. 12 of these are story based and come already built up (although you can easily tear them down) and then 4 are free for you to build out as much as you like. The neighbourhood screen itself is uneditable though.

mortyfan (Oct 20, 2005 6:54:22 PM)
What does the Genie do?

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 6:54:22 PM)
The genie gives hints if you talk to it and also grants wishes -- just watch out because sometimes the genie has a other ideas....

Darkfire (Oct 20, 2005 6:54:32 PM)
It seems that the Genie is back in the Sims 2 Console, is that true?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:54:32 PM)
We put an Aspiration Genie Lamp in the console this year - an homage to one of our previous games, but also a damn useful object with some amazingly positive wishes. But the bad wishes, when you're in a bad mood, can be quite disturbing too! SO be careful.

arndutcas (Oct 20, 2005 6:55:01 PM)
Desperate to know!!!!....Will the Cow Plant be in the console version!!!!!!!!!!!!

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:55:01 PM)
no, but that object was originally on Console in the SIms: Bustin' Out .... and there are a bunch of new objects exclusive to console!

tabala (Oct 20, 2005 6:55:02 PM)
You can control the ghosts? That is soo cool! :)

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:55:02 PM)
Yeah, it's one of favorite things to do with a deceased sim... it's awesome to haunt other characters and see how much chaos you can cause!

EJ (Oct 20, 2005 6:55:21 PM)
is there a multiplayer option for the consoles? sometimes i get sick of playing by myself all the time. I hope you guys make a LAN verion of TS2 for the PC, but in the mean time =, how's the multi-play on the xbox?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:55:21 PM)
You can play 2 player split screen on PS2, XB, and Gamecube.

tabala (Oct 20, 2005 6:55:45 PM)
Which college did Professor Feathers go to?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:55:45 PM)
Sims University, of course.

Holiday6c6c (Oct 20, 2005 6:56:11 PM)
How does the building mode work? The same way as pc?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:56:11 PM)
It functions the same - you can build walls, lay wallpaper and floor tiles, put in windows and doors etc but the controls are slightly different due to the console controllers. Once you get used to it though you'll love it!

nynrvns84 (Oct 20, 2005 6:56:36 PM)
i hear all about the sprouch couch, what on earth is it?? lol

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 6:56:37 PM)
The sprouch couch is a couch that you can water and it sprouts green folliage. If you take good care of it, you might get something special....

arndutcas (Oct 20, 2005 6:56:52 PM)
Any new places to woo hoo?......;-)

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:56:52 PM)
oh yeah... including the newly modeled heart-shape "love bed". It has it's own built in "mojo" switch...

cookiebob5 (Oct 20, 2005 6:57:32 PM)
Will sims on console have the same life-span as the sims on PC?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:57:32 PM)
While you can create a young or old Sim on console we decided to focus on making their lives as detaiulked as possible so they don;t age - however this means your Sims can live forever on console and have as many adventures or alternate lives as you like!

simfulgurl13 (Oct 20, 2005 6:57:37 PM)
will you be able to create different foods by randomly adding ingrediants or is that already preset

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 6:57:37 PM)
You can combine ingredients however you want to -- that's the beauty of it! The results you get depend on the ingredients you use and how you prepare and cook the food.

simguy182 (Oct 20, 2005 6:58:22 PM)
it says in the page article and videos that there will b like a different way of moving your sims or making interactions in consoles, could you explain us how is that?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 6:58:22 PM)
It works like an action adventure game - push left and your Sim walks left, push right and they walk right. Walk up to an object and press the action button and you'll get to choose your action!

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 6:58:23 PM)
do u have to unlock stuff like in sims busting out?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:58:23 PM)
Yes you have to unlock stuff - objects, locations, even interactions - but not quite like bustin' out. Similar, but it's now all driven by the wants/fears system. So once you pick your aspiration and personality at the begining, your wants and fears are driven by those choices. "Gold" wants you have to accomplish to unlock "platinum" wants. Each platinum want you complete unlocks a new place to go. Some of the NPCs have their own storylines and their own gold wants that you need to help them with. You hit a button, switch over to them, and then can drive them around too!

keller (Oct 20, 2005 6:58:44 PM)
Can you have more than one family on the mobile version? And can they age?

MaxisShanti (Oct 20, 2005 6:58:44 PM)
Oh I so wanted this but...sniff...alas, no.

laptoplad (Oct 20, 2005 6:58:57 PM)
what kind of cool group items are in the game

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 6:58:57 PM)
One of my favorite group items is the Sp0r3 gaming machine that up to four Sims can play at the same time. It projects holographic images!

Pch7543 (Oct 20, 2005 6:59:27 PM)
Will theri still be aspirtaions, wnats and fears on mobile?

MaxisShanti (Oct 20, 2005 6:59:27 PM)
Absolutely!

Charley-fool (Oct 20, 2005 6:59:47 PM)
Could you mix the ingredients so that your sim could get sick, or even die?!? he he he he

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 6:59:47 PM)
The food creation system is a giant chemistry set - you can make all kinds of things and when you make one with a special effect, a visual effect (green poison fumes, water diharettic drops, hearts for romance) comes issuing off of the item.

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 6:59:52 PM)
Is the sim on mobile better then computer or same?

MaxisShanti (Oct 20, 2005 6:59:52 PM)
The mobile version fits in your pocket better :)

Bops235 (Oct 20, 2005 7:00:25 PM)
What are some items you can get with your aspiration points?

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 7:00:25 PM)
The console game does not have aspiration reward items. Instead, aspiration points accumulate to unlock objects such as the huge surf machine, the direct control metal detector for finding hidden treasure, and lots, lots more!

Kristi (Oct 20, 2005 7:00:42 PM)
from what im hearing about this food feature, im starting to wonder....what would happen if you combined some really sick ingredients together? like bacon on a cake! euuww.. yet strangely delicious...

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 7:00:42 PM)
it's up to you to try the combos... there's probably... oh... several hundred thousand things you can make. :)

maxiskane (Oct 20, 2005 7:01:02 PM)
We have about five minutes left in the chat! Get your best questions in now!

Joepic19 (Oct 20, 2005 7:01:05 PM)
Is there a grim reaper in the console version?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 7:01:05 PM)
Absolutely - you have to challenge him to a fiddle contest OR pay him off to come back to life after you become a ghost!

jlynna11 (Oct 20, 2005 7:02:08 PM)
what are some of the console aspirations?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 7:02:08 PM)
we have 5 aspirations on console. 4 from the PC plus 1 new one - "Creativity" to leverage our Fashion Designer and Food Creation systems. The other 4 are Popularity, Wealth, Romance, and Knowledge.

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 7:02:09 PM)
I was wondering does the mobile have better stuff then computer?

MaxisShanti (Oct 20, 2005 7:02:10 PM)
Sorry, I couldn't resist the joke. The gameplay is very similar but, unlike the PC, the mobile always has an available data connection. So, you can do fun things like download Sims (your own or those made by others) directly from the Exchange while you're waiting for the bus...

Pch7543 (Oct 20, 2005 7:02:31 PM)
Is there still the option to paint and hang the paintings on the wall?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 7:02:31 PM)
yes! if you have an eyetoy on Ps2 you can actually take pics of yourself and hang them on the wall - for those without an eyetoy it'll be a pic of your Sim in different poses. :)

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 7:02:45 PM)
You guys are sooooooooo cool! Thanx for doing all the hard work and keeping us happy!

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 7:02:45 PM)
Wow, thanks for the compliment! We're so happy to be doing this work as it's truly a labor of love for all of us too!

arndutcas (Oct 20, 2005 7:02:56 PM)
Tell us more about the creativity aspiration please!!

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 7:02:57 PM)
Creative Sims love to pursue artistic careers and hobbies such as music, art, and cooking. They yearn to become virtiosos in "experimental music", create beautiful paintings, and cook new meals for all their friends.

simguy182 (Oct 20, 2005 7:03:29 PM)
will it be hard to control many sims at the same time, like 3 or 4, with this new controlls that need you to control your sims to make them move one by one?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 7:03:29 PM)
You can switch Sims with the press of a button, and you can always use classic controls to queue up actions then switch back to your primary Sim to control them directly. I tend to use both control modes when juggling Sims so I can keep them all happy!

thumper92 (Oct 20, 2005 7:03:39 PM)
did you set out to be game designers and be loved by the players?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 7:03:39 PM)
hahaha we all love playing games, we love making games, so we do what we love and everything else is up to you guys! :)

cookiebob5 (Oct 20, 2005 7:04:04 PM)
Will there be any new music in the console versions?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 7:04:04 PM)
Yeah, we have 31 new songs, 9 of which are licensed music that has been re-recordded in simlish CUSTOM for the Console game!

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 7:04:56 PM)
what kind of new objects are in the PS2 version

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 7:04:56 PM)
350 new objects... tons of cool aspirational objects like the Genie Lamp, the Anti-Grav Hot tub, the Whurl & Hurl Surf machine... as well as the objects you can directly control like the vacuum, metal detector, and fire extinguisher!

MaxisShanti (Oct 20, 2005 7:04:58 PM)
Gotta sign off ya'll - thanks for coming! See you next time :) Shanti out ~

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 7:05:17 PM)
are there any new body options for the console version?

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 7:05:17 PM)
Heaps! Tattoos, piercings, jewellery, make-up, and even a parrot and a dog you can wear on your shoulder (yes they're alive!) as well as the ability to morph and change the shape of individual features on the face and body of your Sim! Plus the usual huge array of hair styles and colors and clothing pieces.

Simfan3331 (Oct 20, 2005 7:05:54 PM)
Are you an actual person or just a robot??? I'm watching you... *Giggles*

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 7:05:54 PM)
hahaha how can you tell the difference for sure? :)

sim me (Oct 20, 2005 7:05:59 PM)
This is more of a comment rather than a question. I just want to say that the graphics look beautiful & you guys have really oudone yourself. You didn't just stop at the lot, you made the whole surrounding area look beautiful!!Great job!

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 7:05:59 PM)
Thanks so much! We all worked really hard on the new game and we really hope you guys like it. :)

MaxisAlex (Oct 20, 2005 7:06:29 PM)
And I need to sign out as well! Thanks to you all for being such loyal fans and keep your feedback coming. We really appreciate it.

Guest (Oct 20, 2005 7:07:23 PM)
I wish I had every console now!

MaxisJoanna (Oct 20, 2005 7:07:23 PM)
I know the feeling :)

Nataluton (Oct 20, 2005 7:07:49 PM)
is there any major new interactions?

MaxisScot (Oct 20, 2005 7:07:49 PM)
Yeah, all new social interactions for Console! The whole new "social mode" is awesome. In direct control, you walk up to a character and engage in social mode. The camera snaps to just the two of you, the world gets "fuzzy" (depth of field) and out of focus so you can watch the body language and facial reactions of each other. Now you have to figure out how to affect the other character's attitude towards you - we have a full range of stances and unique interactions per relationship level. it's awesome
