At first the idea of creating an above ground split level home seems impossible as walls do not join evenly with foundations or walls built on uneven land.

The above downloadable house "ML Architecture" was the result of many days of trial and error. The discovery that foundation and walls can be joined at the ground level if they are of the same height allows us to build short split level homes.

To begin your adventure into split level housing, start with a dividing wall. Place this wall on the lot where you will be dividing the house.

Use the raise terain tool (set at medium) to raise the land alongside the wall...

until the land is just about the same height as the wall..

Use the Page up key to see the next level so you can place a few floor tiles.

as you can see, the floor tiles levels out the land beside it, creating a land height that is exactly right for building a raised foundation.

Use the elevation tool to flattened the area to the same height.

Using the foundation tool, start creating the foundation about 2 tiles away from the wall...

and dragging it for the full length of the wall

This is your split level staircase wall

holding down the CTRL key while using the foundation tool, remove 2 sections of the wall (for your stairs)

use the wall tool and ctrl key to delete the portion of the wall.

use the elevation tool to level out any molehills beside the wall..

using the elevation tool, lower the first tile of terain to the original land height

now to get the right height for the split floor, use the connecting staircase "Holy Smoke Stairs" to lower the terain by 4 steps.

Delete the stairs by holding down CTRL and clicking on the stairs again. The bottom area is now the right terain height for your split level. It is exactly half the height of a wall.

Again using the Elevation tool, level out the terain to create your split level floor.

Steadfast stairs is a good wood stairs to use for classic split level homes. Place your connecting stair tool at the top (as depicted) and....

create your first split level staircase.

add some tiles to the level above....

and place your upper staircase as depicted above....
