This is episode four, ?Glory Fades? of the Harven High series. If you haven?t read the previous episodes, I highly recommend reading them before reading this; otherwise you may be confused. Title and concept for this episode is based on the song ?Sic Transit Gloria?Glory Fades? by Brand New.
Previously on Harven High: The emotions entangled between Emily have ceased and the girls finally accept her. While the truth becomes apparent, Brendan moves on and leaves his best friend Ryan behind. Kylie, Emily?s younger sister, gets a schedule change and moves to Brendan?s table. May invites Brendan over for a dinner disaster, where Brendan finds himself allergic to pork products. Ms. Beverly takes her ?special tutoring? to another level when she schedules a study session at her house. Stupid mistakes will bring about consequences? when the teens find themselves at a crossroad.

May frantically stood on the cracked pavement of the street on a chilly Wednesday morning. She stood behind her little sister, Takara, and the rest of the students who were eagerly waiting to get on the school bus. May sighed as she listened to students ramble on with immature conversations. She was the oldest one at the bus stop, standing behind a handful of middle schoolers. It was the first time she rode the bus in years and the very first time for her sister. Her mother usually gave her a ride to school, but with the increasing price of gas and car accidents; she was no longer able to drive her daughters to school. The thought of riding the bus was not appealing either, since the school used the same bus to shuttle the high school and the middle school students.

May turned her head as she heard the screeching sound of the bus come down the road. The bus looked like a huge block of Velveeta cheese with wheels and washed out windows. She sighed deeply, trying to forget about how horrible the ride would be. As the bus drew nearer, kids pushed and shoved their way to the front of the line. Finally the bus came to a stop and kids scrambled their way to get inside. The bus door slowly opened, screeching like fingernails scratched against a chalkboard. The kids hurriedly ran into the bus, taking any open seat that was available. May on the other hand, approached the bus slowly and cautiously. She took a deep breath and walked in as several students stared at her every being. She rolled her eyes and looked for the nearest seat available, which was towards the middle left of the bus.

May stared out the window admiring the houses and the beautiful blue sky that soared above the Earth. She tried to tune out everyone else around her, but they were too rowdy and too noisy to be ignored. Finally, the bus came to another stop and several more students walked in. They all walked down the narrow aisle following the same pattern everyone else did. May looked down the aisle, spotting an older boy with dark brown hair. He walked down the aisle looking all around the bus for an open seat. She hoped he would sit down next to her, but instead he gave her a blank stare and sat to the right of the bus, several seats up from where she was sitting. ?Why didn?t Brendan sit next to me?? May questioned herself. She turned around to look back at him, but Brendan refused to even look at her. She sighed deeply and stared out the window, noticing the dewdrops on the green grass.

?Hiya!? said a voice nearby. The voice sounded like Steve Urkel from ?Family Matters.? ?Hi,? May responded, noticing a little boy who appeared next to her in her seat. She assumed that he was a middle schooler, by his smaller body. ?Do you like pirates?? the boy asked her politely. ?Yeah, I guess so.? May replied, beginning to feel slightly irritated. ?Well I have a joke for ya. What?s a pirates favorite place to eat?? the boy said enthusiastically. ?I don?t know?? May responded, too tired and annoyed too even care. ?Arrrrrrrby?s! Get it?? he exclaimed rolling his R?s. He smiled back at her and then tried to place his little fingers through her hair. ?Quit!? May shouted at him. She turned around and continued to stare out the window admiring the scenery and reviewing the events of last night. `How can Brendan be allergic to pork? Why did my mother have to act like that?? she asked herself, while pressed against the cold window and the gap between it and her seat.

Brendan stared at the seat with May and the little boy. He was surprised to see May riding the bus; at first glimpse he didn?t think it was really her sitting there. Every now and then he would creep out from along the aisle and try to get her attention, but the bus was too loud and he couldn?t be heard. Brendan was too afraid to really talk to her, he was afraid of what she would say to him. Her mother got really upset last night. While he was laid on the couch in their living room, all he could hear were the sounds of sniffling and tears coming from the kitchen. ?May!? Brendan shouted from across the aisle way. May turned around and gave him the same blank look he gave her earlier. ?You?re riding the bus,? he said sarcastically. May turned back around and faced the window. She didn?t feel like dealing with him at the moment. ?I don?t get it. Is she mad because of last night or because I didn?t sit with her?? he asked himself, not sure of why she was ignoring him.

The bus made several more turns along the road, until they reached Harven Middle School where all the middle schoolers were dropped off. The bus quickly emptied out and only a fifth of the original riders remained. May got up and moved herself to the front of the bus, away from Brendan. She was being somewhat childish, but she didn?t want to deal with anyone at the moment. Brendan tried moving to the front of the bus as well, but May only gave him ?the eyes? as he got out from his seat. The bus continued moving until they finally arrived at their destination. The students all got up and exited the bus in an orderly fashion. May proceeded to the front doors of the school walking up several flights of stairs and eyeing the apple statue that served as a meeting place two days ago.

?May wait!? Brendan shouted from behind. ?What?? May muttered slowly without care. ?Look, whatever you?re mad at me for, I?m sorry,? Brendan sincerely apologized. ?I?m not mad at you. Just give me some space,? May said grabbing his attention. She turned around and walked slowly towards the doors. She placed her warm hand on the cold door handle and pulled the door open. Brendan followed her in the school and watched as she walked down the hall like a zombie. `Something must have happened between her and her mother,? Brendan thought to himself, feeling guilty for everything that had happened.

?May, what?s the matter? You look depressed.? Shanda asked May as she walked into her first period art class - several minutes before class started. May was standing parallel from her assigned canvas, pressed hard against the windows, staring at the school?s courtyard. ?It?s my mom? Last night I had Brendan over for dinner and my mom decides to make something out of the ordinary. Then come to find out, Brendan is allergic to pork. She?s ruining my life; I had to ride the bus today. I sat next to some kid who wanted to braid my hair.? May confessed, with everything she was upset with was geared towards her mother. ?Whoa! One at a time? You said Brendan?s allergic to pork? How can you be allergic to pork? Come on!? Shanda questioned back. ?I don?t know, but he is,? May responded. She backed away from the windows and walked to where Shanda was standing.

?That reminds me, he was in my lunch period last year. I remember him getting a salad with bacon and ham in it. I don?t think he?s allergic to pork. I think he?s just lying so he didn?t have to eat your mom?s cooking,? Shanda recalled. ?Why would he lie?? May asked with a forlorn expression. ?I?m just saying? Besides, I think it would be best if you moved on. Date a real guy for once. How long do you think your relationship would last, knowing your parents?? Shanda questioned her. ?Maybe you?re right?? May said slowly as her mind began to think of other solutions. ?See, I told ya? Shanda said with her sheepish grin. Somehow Shanda had a way of manipulating others minds. Several more students walked into the classroom and before long class started. Ms. Graham started off class by giving directions on what to paint and the students quickly painted away.

?They still wouldn?t talk to me,? Ryan said disappointedly. He was standing next to Emily at their assigned canvas towards the back of the classroom - the same location where they first met. ?Who, your friends? Just give it some time. I?m sure they will come back to you,? Emily said comforting the sorrow in his eyes. ?I don?t think that?s ever gonna happen. I mean look at me? I?m a freaking prep! Their tastes have changed and so has mine,? Ryan violently explained. ?You shouldn?t stereotype yourself like that. They will come back, trust me,? added Emily. ?F it! I don?t need them anyways. I?ll form my own little group,? Ryan shouted peevishly. Emily rolled her eyes and turned away. She continued painting her picture, aware of the fact that there was no true love in this relationship. 'I feel like I?m dating a child,' Emily said to herself. She continued stroking her brush onto the emptiness of the canvas creating an arc into her painting.

`I don?t need those losers anyways. I have a hot girlfriend and I?ll actually have a date to homecoming,? Ryan reassured himself. He swung his paintbrush all around the canvas creating huge blobs. `Why did I have to be so nice? How long can I fake this love? He?s younger than me and obviously less mature,? Emily questioned herself, while filling in color on the arc that she just made. The two of them continued painting away, while pondering the current questions that troubled them the most. The bell soon rang and the class cleaned up and prepared themselves for the next class ahead.

Kylie walked into her Algebra Two class, as usual, and took her seat next to Brendan. She pulled out sheets of loose-leaf paper and pulled the pens out of her pocket. She was going to write notes all hour, like she did the previous day. Brendan stared at her as if she were crazy. Brendan got his notebook out and began copying the notes on the board and waiting for the bell to ring so that Mr. Dyer could begin his lecture. ?Oh this is for you,? Kylie said softly. She handed a folded piece of paper that read, ?Muffin Man.? Brendan took the note and placed it down on his desk. ?Isn?t this what you wrote yesterday?? he asked curiously. ?Yeah, but I forgot to give it to you.? She turned away and started writing another note in green ink.

`Err? I hate notes. Why can?t they just tell me in person?? Brendan said to himself as he unfolded the corners of the paper. He held the note, visible to the teacher?s eyes, and began reading the first line. Out of nowhere, the note was quickly snatched out of his hands. Brendan looked up; saw the note in Mr. Dyer?s hands and a sour expression that only meant trouble. ?What?s this? A note?? Mr. Dyer asked pretending to be surprised. Mr. Dyer walked to the center of the classroom and cleared his throat. ?Alright class, just to let you know there is no note writing, note passing, note reading or any other note related business that isn?t mathematical. I just happened to catch someone reading a note. Would you all like to hear it?? Mr. Dyer announced to the class. Kylie and Brendan?s eyes quickly lit up the moment he announced it. Brendan placed his head down on the desk facing the wall. He felt like burying his head in his arms at the moment.

Mr. Dyer held the paper up high and read the following to the class in a very monotone voice:
`Hey Muffin Man,
Incase you?re wondering? Brendan = Bread Man = Muffin Man. I?m bored right now. I think I?ll sing a song?
?Oh, do you know the muffin man, The muffin man, the muffin man, Oh, do you know the muffin man, That lives on Drury Lane??
Yeah? don?t ask how I know those lyrics. Ahhh? I can?t wait for lunch. Don?t tell me you?re getting a salad again. Well I have other notes to write.
*Heart* Kylie,?
As he finished reading, the class immediately went into a frenzy of laughter. They all pointed and jeered at Brendan and Kylie. The two of them buried their heads beneath their arms and hid themselves from the laugher and the embarrassment.

`What the hell was that all about?? May asked herself as she eyed the two of them acting like five year olds. She was a little suspicious about the two of them sitting together with the occasional laugh or smile. May was jealous and she didn?t appreciate his nickname either. She glanced over at Ben who was sitting next to her. He was sitting in his chair with his hands crossed and neatly placed on the table. His back was perfectly aligned against the chair without a single slouch or gap in between. ?You got a hair cut!? May exclaimed; she was surprised that she could actually see his face now. ?Not really? It?s just a minor trim,? he spoke in his soft quiet voice. ?Well I like it. It looks good on you.? May flirted back. ?Thanks,? Ben replied. He turned around so May couldn?t see him blush, then he looked up to Mr. Dyer, who started to lecture on again.

?Thanks a lot,? Brendan said sarcastically to Kylie. ?Well it?s not my fault you don?t know how to read a note in discretion,? Kylie complained back. She opened up her folder and shoved all her notes inside. After closing her folder she took out her pen and began copying the notes from the board. ?Why do you girls write these notes anyways?? Brendan curiously asked back. ?It?s a girl thing, you wouldn?t understand,? Kylie responded as she sloppily wrote down the notes. Brendan closed his mouth and continued copying the notes from the board and listened to Mr. Dyer?s lecture for the duration of the period.

The hours dragged on until it was finally the last period of the day. May took a deep breath and walked into the class she dreaded the most; English class. She sat down in her seat and turned the chair so that it was angled towards the board and away from Brendan. She opened her book to the page she was last on and began reading; trying to do anything she could to ignore Brendan. The bell shortly rang after, and Ms. Beverly took attendance as usual and then discussed the novel that they were reading. ?May, please can we at least talk about it?? Brendan asked politely. May placed her book down on the cherry oak table and looked over at Brendan with a pessimistic expression. ?Tell the truth? Are you really allergic to pork products?? May politely demanded. Shanda placed her book down and glanced over at May who appeared like a furious lion.

?No I?m not, but?? Brendan admitted only to be interrupted by May. ?You lied! Why did you lie to my family and me? You had them all worried last night. What?s the whole thing with you not sitting with me on the bus? And what?s the deal with that stupid Kylie girl calling you Muffin Man?? May complained in a series of questions that had Brendan speechless. ?I?m sorry, let me explain,? Brendan replied, appearing as a sad puppy dog. ?I don?t wanna hear it. Just leave me alone and give me time to let it all sink in,? May said, tired of Brendan?s excuses. She once again turned her chair so that she was angled away from Brendan and buried herself under her book. Shanda tried to get her attention by making faces at May from across the aisle, but May only ignored her. She continued reading her book, keeping school her main priority. ?What did I do to deserve this? Why can?t she listen to what I have to say?? Brendan asked himself as he took his own book out and began reading.

Ryan looked over at John who was sitting next to him. They were located a table behind where Brendan and May sat. ?Are you going to ignore me the entire time I sit here?? Ryan asked John who was faced away from him. ?I?m trying to read,? John replied back. ?You can?t be mad at me forever. It was a stupid push; you don?t have to be a wimp about it. You?re never gonna get laid by a girl with that kind of attitude,? Ryan responded back. He bit his tongue; he was afraid of how John would react to his last statement. John placed down his book and looked at Ryan with a surprised expression. ?You?ve done it?? John asked curiously. ?Several times,? Ryan lied; he actually had never `done it? before. ?Really? What about that junior girl that you are going out with?? John asked with excitement. ?Yep!? Ryan said smiling back at him.

?Please tell me you?re secret! Girls won?t even talk to me, they look at me like I?m some kind of freak,? John politely begged. ?It?s all about what you say, how you act and how you dress,? Ryan said smoothly. ?Help me, please! I?m so clueless when it comes to those things. I?m just a nerdy little freshman in a sophomore English class,? John begged once again, forgetting all about the `locker incident.? ?What?s in it for me?? Ryan asked with a sheepish grin. ?I can do youre homework, I?m in a lot of sophomore classes,? John suggested. ?Hm? I dunno,? Ryan teased, rubbing his chin and pretending to think about it. ?Please!? John shouted like a little kid. ?Fine, it?s a deal,? Ryan said, no longer wanting to make the kid suffer. He smiled as all his grade troubles would now be fixed.

?We?ll start it today. Just come to my locker after class and I?ll hand you all my homework. Just do it all tonight, and then I?ll look for you tomorrow morning. Oh and what size are you by the way?? Ryan said as he had the whole idea already planned out. ?I think large,? John replied. ?Large? Are you kidding me?? Ryan asked as his eyes lit up. ?That?s in kids, not adults,? John answered back. ?Okay, so extra small then and about a 26x26 in jeans,? Ryan said back. John just nodded, he had no clue what to expect. His mother did all the clothes shopping for him; he just wore whatever she bought him. ?Do I have to pay for all this?? John asked frightened by the costs. ?No don?t worry about it, just do my homework every day and that should be enough,? Ryan smiled back. John nodded and went back to his reading, unaware of what dangers would come ahead.

Ryan walked into school Thursday morning holding a big brown paper bag with clothes inside. He glanced around the hallways looking for John. He searched high and low and finally found him standing in front of his locker talking to the same friend as before. Ryan smiled knowing that this would not become a repeat of last Friday. ?John!? Ryan called out from afar. John turned toward Ryan and smiled, however his friend didn?t appear quite as happy. ?Why are you smiling? That?s the kid that pushed you,? his friend reminded him. ?That?s my friend Ryan,? he answered back. The word ?friend? quickly rushed through Ryan?s head. Already John was calling him friend. Ryan laughed, knowing John was somewhat pathetic and he needed help. ?What did you do to him?? his friend defended, frightened by John?s enormous smile.

?Nothing? can you please excuse us?? Ryan asked politely. His friend?s jaw quickly dropped, as if the whole incident appeared as some twisted nightmare. ?Fine, I?m leaving, but whatever you are doing you better not be brainwashing my friend,? he said back to Ryan before leaving the two of them alone. ?So did you finish my homework?? Ryan asked as soon as John?s friend was out of sight. ?Yeah, here it is.? John answered, handing him a pile of papers and books. ?Thanks,? Ryan said taking his homework out of John?s hand. `I could really get used to this,? he thought to himself. ?What?s in the bag?? John asked curiously. ?Your clothes. You?re gonna try them on,? Ryan answered. John gulped and nervously took the bag out of Ryan?s hands. ?I hope the bathroom is empty. I don?t want people to think we are doing something weird,? Ryan added. He quickly opened his locker, shoving his homework inside and slamming the door shut.

John bit his tongue and walked in a hunchback like posture behind Ryan through the hallways. As they were walking, people stared at John and snickered at him. He folded his arms and self-consciously followed behind until they finally reached the bathroom. ?Here, go inside. I?ll be out here waiting,? Ryan ordered handing him the bag of clothes. ?Okay?? John said nervously. He pushed the bathroom door opened and walked into a cool damp room. ?Good it?s empty,? John said to himself. He opened the bathroom stall door and walked inside and changed. He stepped out of the bathroom and stared at his new clothes in the mirror. He admired his new outfit; he thought it looked good on him. However, the shirt?s label bled straight through him. ?What are my friends going to think of me?? he said as he continued to stare at himself in the mirror. The label continued to beam at him; he placed his hand over it, trying to cover it up.

?What?s taking so long?? Ryan shouted from outside the bathroom. He became impatient and walked into the bathroom anyways. John turned towards him with a slight frown. ?Thank you, but this must have cost you a lot,? John said, feeling slightly guilty. ?Don?t worry about it, it was from the AE clearance rack,? Ryan said smiling. John shook his head; he was beginning to think the whole idea was ridiculous. ?Now it?s time for your hair,? Ryan said looking at John?s short cleanly cut red hair. ?What about my hair?? John quickly responded. ?Wet you?re hair and rub this all around,? Ryan suggested pulling out a bottle of Got2be Glued spiking glue and handing it to him. John gulped and did as he was told. He took the sticky like substance and rubbed it all around creating a messy hairstyle.

?It looks like I haven?t washed my hair,? John complained, while washing his hands from the sticky substance. ?Look like this everyday and you?ll be sure to have girls crawling all over you. Of course you have to know the right words to say to them, but I think you should be fine for now,? Ryan advised him. He took out one final thing from the bag; it was a bottle of Axe deodorant body spray. ?This should cause close encounters,? Ryan said handing him the bottle. John took the bottle and sprayed it all around his body. He began coughing, as the fragrance was too strong for him to handle. Ryan took one last look at John and walked out with a smile. He could only imagine what reactions John might receive today. He smiled, feeling like his plan was a success and that he would never have to do his homework again.

John still continued to stand in front of the mirror, subconscious of what the public would think of him. He didn?t want to leave the bathroom and have his friends see him this way. He grabbed the brown paper bag with his old clothes inside and a cool rush of air hit his warm face as he slowly walked out the bathroom. Several girls smiled and pointed and him; they had no clue he was the same nerdy boy who wore what his mother picked for him. He smiled back at them and continued walking to his first period class.

The endless day seemed to get even longer, until lunchtime had finally arrived. Brendan, Kylie and Jason were at their usual table, as also Ryan and Emily were where they sat everyday. ?Salad again?? Kylie asked as she sat down at the lunch table placing her greasy pepperoni and ham pizza down. She quickly gobbled it down in a matter of minutes. ?Hey, who is that red headed boy sitting at Ryan?s table?? Jason asked looking very puzzled. ?Where?? Kenny asked munching down on his lunch. ?He looks familiar,? Brendan responded. ?Holy shit!? Jason shouted out loud. ?Since when did shit become holy?? Kylie asked in confusion. ?It?s the kid that Ryan pushed into the locker Friday morning,? answered Jason. Brendan?s eyes quickly lit up; he could not believe what he was seeing. ?That?s my neighbor!? Kenny quickly exclaimed.

?Whoa! What?s all the fuss about?? Trevor asked as he sat down at the table, late as usual. ?It?s Emily?s preppy boyfriend,? Kylie said disgustedly. ?You mean you guys? old friend? What?s the big deal about this guy anyways?? Trevor asked as he began eating his food. ?He?s rich! He lives in this big mansion with the biggest pool you?ve ever seen!? Jason exclaimed only stating about his wealth. Brendan eyes quickly lit up as he realized the only reason Jason were friends with Ryan were for his belongings. ?Are you serious? Does he have a grotto where his dad keeps the ladies?? Kenny asked in excitement. ?No, but I wish. I was only friends with him for his stuff, but he?s too much of a jerk to even hang around with now,? Jason stated, revealing the truth. Brendan bit his lip, not knowing of what to say. Brendan shook his head, disappointed that he was too blind to even realize it from the start.

?Are you alright, Brendan?? Ben asked in his quiet little voice. ?Yeah, I?m fine.? Brendan replied back. He was quite surprised that Ben even asked. ?Wait until I tell Emily. I?m her sister so I get pool privileges,? Kylie said, in a giddy tone. ?John is my neighbor, so I get privileges,? Kenny shouted back. ?I say we raid this kid?s pool after school,? Trevor suggested. ?Sounds good to me,? Jason added. ?What happened to going to the skate park after school?? Kenny complained. ?I?m still going, who else is going?? Trevor asked. ?Where?s the skate park? I wanna go! I wanna see you boys tear up your boards,? Kylie exclaimed. ?I guess, I?ll come and watch,? Brendan said slowly, not wanting to be left out. ?Jason, are you going?? Trevor asked. ?Yeah, I guess so?? Jason said slowly. He suddenly remembered that today was the day that Ms. Beverly invited him to her home for his ?special tutoring.?

?Ahhh! I?m so excited!? Kylie shouted out, unable to contain her excitement. ?Damn! Relax for once, it?s only the skate park,? Trevor said trying to calm her down. ?I?m gonna need a ride though, because I don?t know how to get there,? said Kylie. ?I can drive you,? Trevor suggested giving her a wink. ?Thanks,? she said politely. ?So what time are we meeting up then?? asked Brendan. ?Four, I guess,? Trevor suggested. ?Hey, bring some money for dinner too,? Kenny added in. ?What are we eating?? Brendan asked; he hoped it wasn?t anything greasy. ?I don?t know, we?ll figure it when we get there,? Trevor suggested. They continued to ramble on until lunch had finally ended. They all threw away their plates and walked out the lunchroom to their final period of the day.

The bell rang and Ms. Beverly immediately got started with class. She took the attendance and handed everyone a worksheet, which had questions directly from the novel that they were reading. ?Thank you,? John said sincerely. Ryan placed his pencil flat down onto the worksheet on his desk. ?You?re welcome. Sorry I elbowed you at lunch, I didn?t want Emily to know about this,? Ryan replied back. ?Oh, okay,? John said back. ?So what did you?re friends say,? Ryan curiously asked. ?They didn?t say anything,? John answered back. He avoided his friends throughout the entire day, he was afraid of their reaction. ?It?s not that big of a deal; I mean its only clothes right?? Ryan suggested. ?Yeah...? John said slowly. Although, he got additional attention, John still felt worse. He wanted to be like Ryan, but at the same time it means giving up his old self.

Brendan looked over at May, who still had her chair angled away from him. ?May, are you going to talk to me?? Brendan asked. May twitched her head and continued working, disallowing any distractions that Brendan was causing. ?How long are you going to be mad at me? We are never going to get anywhere unless we talk this through?? Brendan stated. ?I?m trying to do my work.? May muttered, as she was still faced away from him. `Why is she acting like this,? Brendan asked himself. He felt somewhat teary, as May continued to ignore him. He only wanted to talk to her and explain his side of the story, but everything that he said only angered her more and more. Finally he gave up and continued to work on the worksheet.

After minutes of silence, the bell rang ending class and the school day. Everyone exited out in an orderly fashion, grabbing their belongings and heading to their lockers. Jason slowly exited the classroom, smiling widely at Ms. Beverly. He went to his locker and took everything he needed out and went straight back to Ms. Beverly?s classroom. ?Hey,? he said as he walked into the empty classroom. Ms. Beverly was at her desk grading papers. He walked closer to her noticing the beauty she hid when she was at work. ?So how is this going to work?? he asked curiously. Ms. Beverly looked up at him and smiled, then suggested, ?Well, I thought you could just ride home with me.? ?In your car?!?? he asked, alarmed by the thought of riding in a teachers car. ?Yes, silly. How else?? she replied. As she finished grading the last paper in her stack, she took out another stack of papers, which were from another period, and began grading those.

Jason became slightly impatient waiting. He walked over to the desk and placed his book bag on the floor. He placed his elbow on the desk and rested his head on his hand. He glimpsed over at Ms. Beverly who was still grading papers. He started to picture himself lying next to her on her bed. Their heads rested on a pillow as soft as a cloud and they were blanketed by satin that radiated with a nice crimson color. He pictured every detail of the scene, right down to the smells of the room. Suddenly he felt himself shaking. ?Jason, are you alright? I?m finished. We can leave now,? she said, waking him up from his trance. He slowly got up from the desk and grabbed his bag with him. Ms. Beverly waited for Jason to walk out of the room and then she followed behind him locking the door.

?Keep a 15 foot distance behind me. I don?t want anyone getting suspicious,? she advised, walking several feet past Jason. He followed her through the school, keeping the 15 foot distance behind her. The hallways, luckily, were empty so no one managed to see him following her. They exited the school and went into the semi-vacant parking lot. ?Where are all of the cars,? Jason asked curiously. ?Most of the staff members just work for a paycheck, they usually don?t take the time to stay after for prep work,? Ms. Beverly answered. She continued walking until she finally reached her car. She reached into her pocket and pulled out her keys. She took her key and jammed it into the keyhole. Jason smiled as she struggled to unlock the door. From that action, his mind was filled with dirty thoughts. Finally she unlocked the door and went into her car and unlocked the other side for Jason.

Jason placed his hand on the handle, feeling a chill up his spine. He was about to ride in his teacher?s car and possibly even do worse things at her house. ?This is it,? he said to himself as he lifted the door handle and opened the door. He placed his left foot inside then the other and sat down into her car. He closed the door behind him, grabbed the seatbelt, and buckled himself in. Ms. Beverly turned the ignition and the car immediately started running. Jason bit his lip in fear of entering her home. Ms. Beverly was his teacher, but he viewed her more as a lover. It seemed only a week ago they were flirting and hugging, but it quickly turned into kissing and touching. He knew what was coming next; it was only obvious why she wanted him in her home. He stared out the window and took a last look at the school. Ms. Beverly drove out of the parking lot and onto the streets towards a territory unsafe for a teenage boy.

?Hey you made it!? Kylie shouted out to Brendan, who had just walked into the skate park. He walked past several half pipes, quarter pipes, and trees until he was at the bench were Kylie was seated. Trevor and Kenny stopped skating and carried over their skateboards to where Brendan and Kylie were seated. ?Ben and Jason still aren?t here,? Brendan asked seeing only the three of them. ?Ben doesn?t skate and I dunno, I guess Jason is late,? Trevor responded. ?Ben doesn?t skate?? Kylie asked in confusion. ?No, he doesn?t. I really don?t know much about him. He was sitting by himself at lunch one time and I kinda felt bad for him. So we invited him over to our lunch table and he?s been sitting there ever since,? Trevor said, with a tone of sympathy in his voice. ?He was a loner?!?? Kylie exclaimed. ?Yeah, pretty much. We don?t know much about him either. He?s pretty quiet about everything,? Trevor responded.

?He scares me a bit,? Brendan admitted. ?You?re scared of him? That?s hilarious, he?s gonna appear at your window at night,? Kenny joked. Brendan laughed and rolled his eyes, but Kylie looked slightly upset. ?He wouldn?t do that, he?s way too modest to even think of that,? Kylie detested. ?You never know, it?s always the quiet ones you hear about on the news,? Kenny suggested. ?That?s enough!? Trevor shouted. ?Let?s just get back to our boards, Jason might be running a little late,? Trevor suggested. Kenny grabbed his skateboard and winked at Kylie who was still seated at the bench. He turned around and walked with Trevor to the quarter pipe that was on the far left hand side.

?Ahh? I can?t stand Kenny. He needs to keep his mouth shut,? Kylie complained. ?You like Ben, don?t you?? Brendan asked, figuring that from the notes she wrote for him and her mood, hinted that she liked him. ?I never said I liked him,? Kylie responded. ?Whatever?? Brendan said in boredom. ?I wish I had a camera with me so I could take pictures of the skater boys,? Kylie wished, eying each boy as his skateboard and his body flew into the air. Brendan rolled his eyes and looked above at the branches of the tree above them. ?So homecoming is next week,? he said changing the conversation. ?You?re point is?? Kylie asked as if she didn?t care. ?I was just saying it was next week, that?s all,? answered Brendan. ?So you?re asking me out to homecoming, is that it?? Kylie said with the biggest smile on her face.

?What!?!? I never said that!? Brendan shouted back. ?So you don?t like me?? she pouted with a sad puppy-dog face. ?I already had another girl in mind,? Brendan confidently said. ?And who is it?? Kylie curiously asked. ?You wouldn?t know her,? Brendan said, slightly blushing. ?Oh come on, please tell me!? begged Kylie. ?Well, I want to go with May. She sits next to Ben in our math class,? Brendan said slowly, he was slightly nervous to tell her. ?Eww? her?? she said in disgust. ?Do you have a problem?? He said slightly clenching his fists. ?No, I was only kidding. Besides I think you two would look good together,? Kylie lied. ?You think so? Well the only problem is, she?s mad at me and now she won?t talk to me. It?s making me mad,? Brendan told her, looking very upset about the situation.

?Girls can be complicated like that sometimes. She will eventually talk to you, if she doesn?t she must be messed up in the head. Besides, it?s just a stupid dance, you don?t need a date to those things anyways,? Kylie suggested. ?Thanks, but I?m not gonna give up on it. I?ve already gone through enough, and there?s no way I?m gonna quit,? Brendan answered back. ?Ew? I can see where it starts and where it ends!? Kylie shouted in disgust at a kid wearing pants as tight as spandex walked by. Brendan laughed when Kylie looked as if she was going to attack the kid. ?You got some air in between those legs?? Kylie shouted to the kid in front of them. Brendan turned away; he didn?t want to be involved in the conversation. The kid looked at the two of them and smiled back at Kylie. She winked at him, and he walked off taking his skateboard along with him.

?Geez! Why do you have to be so random sometimes?? Brendan complained. ?I don?t know. It?s just my personality I guess, I like to have fun and try new things,? Kylie answered. ?You know you could get shot for acting like that in some parts of the country,? Brendan warned her. ?Yeah, but when will that ever happen. Hey, I wonder where Jason is. It?s already 4:30, what could he possibly be doing,? Kylie wondered. She took a look around and saw Jason nowhere in sight. ?I don?t know,? Brendan said slowly. He wondered out of all the possible things, what Jason was doing. It couldn?t have been homework and there was no way he was at Ryan?s house. Then it quickly hit him, like a dart hits its target. `Ms. Beverly?.? He said whispered to himself.

?Wait there, while I freshen up,? echoed through Jason?s head. He was lying on her bed, while Ms. Beverly went to the bathroom to freshen up. Her bed was nothing like he pictured; instead it was hard and lumpy and her bed sheets felt like sandpaper. He sighed deeply, wishing he had gone to the skate park with his friends. It was nothing like what he expected at all. Her room felt more like a sleazy motel than a room from some paradise hotel. Jason just didn?t feel comfortable at all and he knew what would happen next. He was not ready for it yet and Ms. Beverly continuously pushed him to go further. He eyed the door which appeared so far away from him. He thought about escaping, leaving her room and running far away from her house. However, there was a small part of him that wanted to stay in the room. He had indescribable feelings for his teacher. He viewed her more as peer than a teacher and somehow he felt a certain connection between them.

Although, it appeared that Ms. Beverly didn?t feel the same way. It was like she was only after his body and nothing else. Jason slowly inched his way out of the bed and he stood on the cold-carpeted floor. He was about to make an exit and he was about to do it quick. Suddenly, the doorknob of the bathroom door had turned. Jason bit his tongue and jumped back onto the bed. Ms. Beverly smiled at him, as she walked out of the bathroom. She appeared to be wearing expensive lingerie with stockings attached to her little nightgown. Jason immediately started sweating like crazy, his escape had failed and Ms. Beverly was ready for him. She cat-walked her way to the bed and then crawled right on.

?Come here,? she whispered to him in a flirty tone. ?Can?t we take things slow,? Jason suggested. ?I?m the teacher, you know,? she reminded him. She grabbed his head and started blowing in his ear. Jason ignored all of her movements. He was really too afraid, scared, worried, and depressed to even care what she was doing. He knew everything she was doing was wrong, it wasn?t right. She was his teacher and he was her student. He was her prey and she was the predator. He was the lamb and she was the slaughter. He had never expected their relationship to go so far, especially in such a short time. He thought his teacher was a friendly woman who shared interests similar to his.

She continued moving her hands all around his body. She seemed very experienced in what she was doing. Jason still continued to ignore every movement she made. He kept his hands pinned down to his side and tried to have no part in the act. His stomach started to ache and his heart turned cold. He wanted more than ever to escape, but he was too afraid to stop her. Ms. Beverly stopped kissing him and then started to tug on his clothes. Jason closed his eyes, ignoring whatever she was doing. He wanted the nightmare to stop; it felt like endless torture to him. It wasn?t anything like he expected and he couldn?t allow his first time to be with his English teacher. Finally he felt a tug on his boxers. Jason opened his eyes, he knew it was time to react; he couldn?t let it continue any longer. He took a deep breath and pushed Ms. Beverly away from him.

Ms. Beverly went flying to the wall and Jason jumped off the bed and started dressing himself as fast he could. ?Jason!? Ms. Beverly shouted out loud. ?Get your hands off of me! I?m leaving and if you?re going to try to stop me I?ll call the police!? Jason shouted back at her. He gave her a serious look, as his red eyes glowed like fire. ?Jason, I?m sorry. I just thought you felt the same way,? she apologized in her flirty tone. ?That?s a bunch of bullshit!? he shouted back to her. He quickly ran for the door, slamming it behind him. He quickly searched for his backpack and picked it up. He placed his arms through the straps until it was secured on his back. He ran straight for the front door and turned the doorknob as fast as he could. He opened the door and slammed it behind him. Jason ran for his life, as he left the nightmare and possibly the biggest mistake of his life behind him.

He continued running as fast as he could; he didn?t care if Ms. Beverly was chasing him or not. He wanted to go home and lock himself in his bedroom for the rest of the night. He wanted to forget all about the things that had happened. ?How stupid could I be? Why did I go in her house? I knew what would have happened,? he asked himself. He continued running and running until eventually he made it to his apartment complex. He felt relieved, somewhat frightened still, but at the most part he felt free. It was like the feeling you have when you just wake up from a nightmare or when you walk out of a theater after seeing a horror film.

The next day of school seemed to drag on as usual. The bell ending C lunch rang and students quickly rushed out of the lunchroom. May had A lunch, so she had just came out of her chemistry class. May looked more down and depressed than ever. She had just gotten back her chemistry test, and she gotten a 68%, which was a C- and 1% away from a D+. She felt like she was a failure, she usually did well on tests and she was one of the smartest girls in her grade. She had lied to her friends that night she went to the mall with Shanda and Brendan. She did have a test the next day, which she did not study for at all. She slowly walked down the hallways and headed to her English class. She did not care about anything else around her. She was too upset at her self to even notice.

She slumped down the hallway and noticed two familiar faces. One of the students was a male and had dark brown hair. The other was female and had dirty blonde hair. She watched the two smile and laugh at each other. She viewed them as flirting, but she didn?t really know what it was. She felt jealous, somewhat betrayed. She felt like he was cheating on her, even though they were never going out. She looked away, not wanting to see anymore of Kylie and Brendan?s hallway romance. She walked towards her English class and walked into the classroom. She walked over to her seat and adjusted her chair around so it was angled away from Brendan. She stared at the board and read the name ?Mrs. Sherman.?

To her right, she saw Jason surprisingly early to class. He looked more down and depressed than May was. She wondered what was wrong with him, but she couldn?t think of any possibilities. ?We have a sub!? Shanda shouted out loud. She had just entered the classroom early as usual. She walked to her seat and looked at Jason who appeared near the verge of tears. ?What?s the matter? Something happen at lunch?? Shanda asked comforting him. ?No it?s nothing like that. Just tired, I guess,? He lied. ?Well get some sleep when you get home. You look awful,? Shanda suggested. Jason nodded his head and wondered what happened to Ms. Beverly. `I bet I scared her so much last night, she quit her job,? he thought to himself.

Brendan walked into the classroom and took his seat as usual. He tapped May on the shoulders and tried to get her attention. However, she did not budge. She sat there faced away from him and stared at the board. ?May, please! We need to talk,? Brendan begged. ?You need to keep your hands to yourself,? she said, with emphasis on the word `hands.? ?What do you mean?? Brendan asked her. ?Leave me alone, I?m having a bad day,? May answered. Brendan shook his head, something was obviously bothering her that was making her feel this way. `Did her mom do something bad to her?? he wondered.

?How was school?? May?s mother asked as May and Takara arrived home from school. ?Decent.? May slowly answered. ?What kind of answer is `decent?? Did you ever get your chemistry test back, May?? her mother asked again. ?No, not yet,? she lied. She was afraid to show her mother, she knew her mother would freak out and punish her in some way. ?I?m going to the mall because I want to take a quick look at something, and then I need to get a few items from the mini mart. Do you want to come?? her mother asked politely. ?No, I have homework.? May said, as an excuse. She didn?t want to go to the mall; she was afraid she would see Dan there. ?Are you alright? I can?t believe you are turning down the mall,? her mother responded. ?Homework comes first, right?? May said with a slight cheer.

?Well Takara is probably coming too? I want you to get dinner started if you are going to stay home. There are some chicken breasts in the fridge. I want you to lay it out in the sink to defrost. Then I want to you to chop the whole bag of potatoes in the pantry and slice them into tiny cubes. Then I want you to slice up the cabbage into tiny pieces as well. I?ll call you when we are about to get home. Then you can boil the water,? she said, giving May a list of chores to do while she went to the mall. ?Ok, I will,? May responded.

She took a deep breath and walked over to her bedroom. She walked inside and set her homework on the desk. Then she jumped onto her bed and sulked herself into her soft sheets. She had enough for one day and the weekend had already started. She hoped the extra days away from school would help her clear everything up. ?May we?re leaving!? her mothered shouted from outside her room. ?Okay!? May shouted back. She lied in bed for several minutes until she heard her mom?s car leave the driveway.

May slowly jumped out of her bed with a huge smile on her face. She was home alone; she had the house to herself. Her mother would be gone for at least a couple of hours, so she had a chance to sneak out. She stood there with two options in mind, one to stay at home and mope around the house or to sneak out and settle things with Brendan. She thought about each option, carefully reviewing the pros and con of each outcome. Finally she came to her conclusion.

`There?s no way I?m staying home to slice potatoes on a Friday night? May thought to herself. She walked out of her room and went into the living room. She checked the windows to make sure her mother was nowhere in the vicinity. Then she walked to the front door and took a deep breath. She twisted the doorknob and stepped outside, feeling the breeze blow onto her soft skin. She closed the door behind her and smiled at the fact that she was free. Her mother rarely left her at home alone, so these kinds of occasions were rare for her. If she wanted to go somewhere without her mother knowing, she used the, `I?m staying after school? excuse. She walked over to the concrete sidewalk and looked at the path ahead of her. She was prepared and ready to hear whatever excuses Brendan was able to throw at her.
