This is episode five, ?Time To Dance? of the Harven High series. If you haven?t read the previous episodes, I highly recommend reading them before reading this, otherwise you may be confused. Title and concept for the episode are based on the song ?Time To Dance? by Panic! At The Disco. Sorry if this episode is much longer than usual, but it's the season finale so it had to be long.

Kenny glanced out the school bus window, watching the students gathering outside. He continued to stare out the window until the bus made a full stop. Once the bus had stopped, the bus driver pressed the release button, opening the bus door. A rush of cool air quickly seeped inside the bus. Kenny grabbed his belongings and followed the other students out the school bus in an orderly fashion. He continued walking along the concrete path to the front doors. Halfway along the path, he noticed a girl standing nearby the apple statue. She was wearing a striped shirt and Capri jeans. She had brown hair that blew gracefully in the wind. He quickly admired her beauty. He smiled and picked up his walking speed, walking much faster than before. Each step he took, he saw more of the girl's beauty. Each time, Kenny would smile and then walk faster than before.

As he drew near, he started to see more of her facial features. She had brown eyes, a cute little nose, and perfectly glossed lips. However, there was something unpleasant above her upper lip. It appeared as a brown blur. Kenny didn't know what it was. Perhaps it was a chocolate stain from breakfast, or maybe he had some dust in his eyes. Kenny quickly walked up the steps and stopped when he was 5 feet away from her. "Hey," Kenny said smoothly. She turned around and smiled back at him. "Hi," she returned the greeting. Kenny smiled back at her and started to stare at her face again. This time he could finally see the blur that appeared above her lip. It was a mustache. It was light brown with tiny little curls at the ends. Kenny's eyes immediately widen as he saw the hideous flaw in her beauty. "Is something wrong?" she asked him, noticing the disgusted look on his face. "Um? you have a mustache," he said slowly, trying not to stare.

The first period bell quickly rang. May and Shanda were standing next to their assigned canvas in art class waiting for directions to be given. Shanda started adjusting her canvas, which was slightly off-center. After she was finished, she looked at May who was stroking her chin. "May! Take that ridiculous mustache and beard off your face! You look like some dyke!" Shanda shouted at her, disgusted by the fake facial hair on May?s face. "Come on! It's for spirit week! Where's your school spirit?" May asked with slight cheer on her face. "Who made up facial hair day anyway? That's the craziest spirit idea I've ever heard of. Please, take that ridiculous mustache and beard off. You look like a fool," Shanda responded back. She smiled as May slowly peeled the stick-on facial hair off her face. Once it was off, May rubbed her face, vigorously removing any adhesive residue from the stick-on facial hair.

"See, you look a lot better. So how was your weekend?" Shanda asked, highly attended into May's social life. "It was boring. I spent the entire weekend mostly at home planning out events for this week, and then all the student?s council people kept calling me. Oh, and I tried going to Brendan's house Friday night, but he wasn't home." May responded; sounding slightly distressed. "Damn! That sounds like a lot of work. So what's going on between you and Brendan? I saw you practically yelling at him in class the other day," Shanda asked. "I don't really know. I wanted to talk to him and find out what's the deal, but he wasn't home," May disappointedly answered. "Talk to him after class. You look him straight in the eye and tell him you want the full story," Shanda suggested. A devilish grin quickly appeared from ear to ear on Shanda's face. "I think you're right. I'm going to talk to him once we get out of this class," agreed May; she looked up at the center of the classroom and listened for directions.

"So, we are supposed to paint a nightmare?" Ryan asked Emily, confused at Ms. Graham's directions. "Yeah, but don't copy me this time," Emily answered back. She took her paintbrush and dipped it into black paint. Then, she began painting a small bed at the corner of her canvas. "About homecoming?" Ryan interrupted her from her painting trance. "What about homecoming?" she said slightly irritated. "I was thinking we could rent a limo and maybe go to this really fancy restaurant before the dance starts. How does that sound?" Ryan suggested. Emily bit her lip. The dreaded conversation had finally come up and her head was quickly bombarded with problems. The name `Alex? quickly flashed through her mind several times. Alex was her ex-boyfriend, the same guy that she promised to go to homecoming with. She looked back at Ryan and saw an excited boy. "Yeah, that's sounds good." Emily responded back, sounding the least bit excited.

"What's the matter? Is it too much?" Ryan asked, noticing the dullness in her tone of voice. "No, it's just that I don't have a dress yet," Emily lied, gulping down the guilt that quickly formed inside her throat. "You girls and your dresses," Ryan noticed. He smiled and let out a small laugh. "Yes, us girls and our dresses." Emily laughed along with him. She picked up her paintbrush; ready to continue painting her picture. She crossed out the bed in the corner of the picture and placed the point of her paintbrush in the center of canvas. She glanced over her left shoulder and saw a huge smile on Ryan's face. She turned back towards her painting and continued to paint away until the bell ending class rung.

"There he is! Hurry before he goes into class!" Shanda shouted to May. They were standing in the tiny hallway near the stairs. Shanda pushed May towards the staircase that Brendan was slowly walking up. "Brendan!" May called out. She quickly bit her tongue. She was feeling a bit nervous, especially since her best friend was watching her confrontation. Brendan turned around and smiled. He slowly walked down the stairs and walked over to where May was standing. He quickly gulped as soon as he noticed a serious look appear on May's face. "I'm sorry for ignoring you, I was being childish." May confessed. 'Now she's apologizing?' he thought to himself, shocked to hear an apology. "But you didn't have to lie like that, if you didn't like the food you could have just said so. I think you owe my whole family an apology." May finished.

"I'm sorry. Your family probably hates him now, there's no way they are letting us go to the dance together," Brendan responded sincerely. May looked into his dark brown eyes and saw what appeared to be small formation of tears. She looked at him standing there, presenting himself as a gentleman to her. He was so sincere and honest to her, yet she allowed a simple white lie to tear them two apart. Brendan's arms slowly came at her, ready to be wrapped around her body.

She moved slowly towards him and lowered herself into his arms. His soft hands came onto her back and her tender arms rested slightly below his shoulders. She pressed her body against his and rested her head on his shoulders. The moment felt endless as both bodies quickly pressed together as one. Students all around them quickly stared and watched the two hug. Everything around them slowly disappeared; the only sound present was their breathing and the beating of their hearts. It seemed almost fairytale perfect, almost a perfect ending from a novel, but the glory could not last for long. May slowly released her arms from him and the two of them quickly snapped back into reality.

"What the hell kind of hug was that?" Shanda shouted at the two of them. Several students continued to crowd around, wanting to view the commotion. "I guess we got kinda carried away," Brendan answered back, turning a bright shade of red. May smiled along and watched as several students began to slowly walk away from the little crowd. Brendan started to look around to see that many people were actually watching them. He looked over to his right and he saw a dirty blonde haired girl. She had a frown on her face and gave Brendan a blank stare. "Congratulations," Kylie said slowly. She turned away from him and walked off with the rest of the crowd who was leaving. Brendan's jaw immediately hung open. He tried to say something back to her, but May quickly interrupted his strain of thought. "Why is she saying congratulations? She's happy for us? Brendan, I don't want you talking to her." May ordered.

"OK, I won't talk to her," Brendan said slowly. May nodded her head and walked towards Shanda and continued on with their conversation. Brendan slowly followed after and listened along. He stood there in denial. There was no possible way he could not talk to Kylie. She sat next to him in class and in lunch. She was almost unavoidable. After about a minute or so, the three quickly separated and headed to their second period class.

Brendan entered his Algebra Two classroom and took his seat as usual. He pulled out his notebook and pencil and looked over at Kylie who looked disappointed. "So did your wish finally come true?" she slowly asked. "Please don't tell me you're jealous of us," Brendan answered back. "No, I'm not; just surprised to see you two talking again." Kylie said lazily. "She hates you. I can already tell. She said I'm not supposed to talk to you," Brendan responded. "Well you better keep your mouth shut then, because she's giving us the eyes," Kylie quickly advised him. Brendan closed his mouth and turned around and faced the board, and then the bell to start class quickly rung shortly after. Mr. Dyer took another sip of his coffee and begun lecturing the class about linear equations.

Jason walked into school early the next morning. He took his time, walking slowly through the vacant hallways. He was several minutes early and he had nothing better to do. He walked past Ms. Beverly's classroom and peeked inside. The lights were on in the classroom, but there was no one inside. The board still had the name "Mrs. Sherman" written in white chalk. 'I wonder if she is ever coming back,' he said to himself slowly. He stepped out of her classroom and continued walking down the empty hallway. "Jason!" a voice shouted from behind him. Footsteps soon followed after him until finally a huge smack landed on his back. Jason turned around to see Kenny right in front of him. "You're here early," Jason responded back. "Yeah, the bus decided to take a shortcut," Kenny answered back. The boys stood there in the hallway for a moment, silent and tired from the previous night.

Suddenly they heard a loud screeching sound come out from the school's speaker system. "Attention all students, today is the last day to run for homecoming king and queen. If you are interested, please sign up in the front office." Mr. Weaver announced through the speaker system. Another loud screech soon followed after ending the transmission of the announcement. Kenny's eyes quickly lit up and a huge smile soon appeared on his face. "Jason, I got an idea!" Kenny shouted out loud. "Are you stupid?" Jason answered back, already knowing exactly what Kenny was thinking. "Come on, it will be fun. I say we enter Kylie, she's gonna win for sure," Kenny suggested. "How the hell is she going to win when she's a new student? They hand pick the top fifteen from the list of entries. They only pick the people with high academics and lots of extra curricular activities," Jason explained. He shook his head and slowly turned away from Kenny.

"Well do you know anyone like that? Someone that's really ugly too, so no one will vote for her. That way they get into the top fifteen and then cry, because no one voted for them," Kenny asked with a devilish grin on his face. "Well, there is this one girl, but never mind," Jason answered back. "What one girl? Come on, who is she?" Kenny demanded. "Shanda Wilson, she's this loud mouth chunky girl. She's in the art club and stuff, I'm sure she will make top fifteen for sure," Jason suggested. "Great! Come on, let's go enter her in right now!" Kenny shouted back. Kenny quickly darted off to the front office leaving Jason far behind. 'I can't enter her in, that's mean,' Jason said to himself while slowly walking behind.

Kenny was standing in front of a table with several clipboards on top. On the wall was a huge sign that read, "Become Homecoming King or Queen!" To the left of the table was a huge box, where Jason guessed the entries went into. Kenny swiftly grabbed a clipboard and began writing down as much information as he could. "How do you spell Shanda?" Kenny asked. Jason finally reached the table and shook his head at Kenny. "Give me the clipboard; your handwriting is too sloppy. They will know it's fake for sure," Jason advised him. He grabbed a new clipboard and began filling it out in the neatest handwriting he was capable of. Kenny just stood there laughing along as Jason filled out each section of the form. After Jason was finished, he slowly handed the form to Kenny. Kenny then took the form and dropped it into the box and threw away the first form that he filled out. Jason sighed and then walked away from the table and headed to his locker.

Kylie stared at the clock on the wall. She watched the minute hand slowly inch its way around the clock. She had been silent for the duration of second period, obeying May's command of not talking to Brendan. The bell ending second period soon rang after and she remained in her seat, watching May and Brendan happily walk out of the classroom together. 'How could I be jealous?' she asked herself as she got out of her seat and grabbed her book from the desk. She stood several feet away from the doorway waiting for Ben to walk out of the classroom, walking almost robotically, taking each stride as even as the last.

"Ben!" Kylie called out to him. Ben slowly turned, almost anticipating her to call at him. "Hi," he said in a soft, quiet voice. "Are you going to homecoming?" she quickly popped the question. "I don't know," he answered back slowly. His still postured body now slowly trembled in fear. "Why not?" Kylie asked politely. "I don't like dancing," he answered in a deeper voice. "Come on. I bet that you look good on the dance floor," she tried convincing him, reciting a line from an Arctic Monkeys song. Ben simply smiled back at her and shook his head. "It wouldn't matter anyways, they would never let me go," Ben responded back, signaling he didn't want to talk any more. He turned around and slowly walked away from her. "Who are they? Your parents?" Kylie shouted as Ben walked away from her. He continued walking, pretending not to hear her shouting at him.

Ben ignored Kylie for the duration of the day. She tried asking him again at lunch, but he spoke no words, laughed at no jokes, and kept an expressionless face during the entire lunch period. She knew something was wrong him, maybe something wasn't good at home, or maybe he was just mental. Either way she felt it was her duty to help, but Ben would just tune her out each time.
After lunch Jason walked towards his English class with guilt. He still felt guilty for the whole bedroom situation and now he felt guilty for entering Shanda as homecoming queen. He shook his head and tried to ignore everything. However, snippets of quotes echoed throughout his head. He placed his hands over his ears and covered them. He didn't want to hear anymore. Finally he reached Ms. Beverly's classroom and walked inside.

He looked up at the chalkboard, to see the name "Mrs. Sherman" erased out. 'I doubt she's back,' he reassured himself. He continued walking down the aisle way, towards his seat. When he reached the cherry oak table, he placed his books down and sat down on his chair. He had been arriving early to English class, every day since "the incident." He felt weird sitting there alone and being the only one in the classroom. Quick flashes of Ms. Beverly soon filled his head, but he tried to push them all away. Finally several more students walked into the classroom and walked to their seats. "What's wrong with you? You've been acting like this ever since Ms. Beverly has been gone," Shanda asked as she slowly took her seat. "Nothing," Jason lied. He tried to put on a smile, but it looked more like a frown. "Whatever, but I know you're hiding something," she responded back. More and more students walked into the classroom as the bell starting class soon rang.

"I wonder where our teacher's at," John said to Ryan who was sitting next to him. "I don't know, but the bell has already rung. Mrs. Sherman said Ms. Beverly is sick and might not return for days," Ryan responded back. John nodded his head and turned around, staring at the doorway. Suddenly a figure emerged from the doorway and continued walking up the aisle way. All eyes stared at the woman with jet-black hair and skin as white as snow. She slowly walked up to the board and grabbed a piece of white chalk. She wrote down the name "Miss Serenity" and placed the chalk down on the ledge. "Hello class, Mrs. Sherman has left early today. I will most likely be your teacher's permanent replacement for the meantime. I heard from administration that Ms. Beverly's mother is terribly ill. Well, I'm Miss Serenity," she announced to the classroom.

Students immediately gave blank stares. Many of them were shocked to hear that Ms. Beverly was leaving. Puzzled faces wanted more answers as their heads quickly began to fill with questions. However, what stunned the students the most was not Ms. Beverly's absence, but Miss Serenity's appearance. She wore black clothing that quickly stood out from amongst her ghostly pale skin. Her jet-black hair was worn in a style that covered her right eye. Her left eye was the only eye that was visible to the students. Her eye was a yellowish orange color and burned like the sun and each time she spoke she would give off a demonic stare to random students.

"Open your literature books to page 666," Miss Serenity announced, wasting no time. Students immediately froze the moment she announced it, many of them refused to even open their books. "I'm sorry, it was page 466," she corrected herself. Sighs of relief soon followed after and many soon chuckled and laughed at what they thought was a joke. She continued on with her serious manner of teaching with the occasional toying with the students' minds.
"Ding! Ding!" the final bell rang ending school. Sounds of shouting soon followed after as many students quickly jumped out of their seats and rushed out of the classroom as fast as possible.

Emily was in her room, doing her homework on her brand new desk. Her room was finally cleaned up with the pile of empty boxes finally unpacked. She picked up her textbook and started searching for an answer to her homework question. Suddenly a huge loud beep came out of nowhere. Emily quickly dropped her pencil down and walked over to her nightstand where her cell phone was laying. "Hello," she greeted the caller rudely. "Emily, it's me. Alex," he answered back. "Alex, I miss you. I'm sorry I haven't talked to you since we moved," she apologized. "I miss you too. I understand about your whole situation. Heather said she talked to you like a week ago. She said something about some girls giving you trouble," he said a bit worried. "Oh, I already dealt with those girls. You don't have to worry about them," she reassured him.

"That's good to hear. I'm fine too. Everyone misses you. I wish you didn't have to move." "I miss you guys too. I wish I didn't have to move either," Emily replied with a hint of regret in her voice. "Are you coming here Saturday, for homecoming?" he politely asked. There was a short pause in between before Emily could even answer him. "Yeah, of course; I wouldn't miss homecoming, especially with you," she said smothering him with kind words. "Why don't you come to my house Saturday at 4 o'clock? That way you have time to see everyone before the dance starts," Alex responded sounding excited to see her again. "Sure, I'll be there," she said trying to sound excited as well. "Ok, well I'll see you Saturday then. I lov?" he stopped himself from saying it, forgetting that they had broke up. "Bye," he corrected himself. "Bye, see you Saturday," Emily replied back.

She pressed the 'End' button on her cell phone and placed it gently back on her nightstand. She jumped onto her bed, burying her face in her pillows. 'There's no way I can be at two places at once. I'm just going to have to tell Ryan the truth. I already promised Alex and I just told him I was going. Then again, I can't tell Ryan no. It would break his heart,' she said to herself, pondering on about which dance to go to. She turned right side up and stared at the ceiling above her. Suddenly she heard the doorknob turn and out emerged her sister. "Are you taking a nap?" Kylie asked confused at what she was doing. "Yeah, I'm taking a nap," Emily said sarcastically. Kylie shook her head and walked over to Emily's desk and opened the drawer. "What are you looking for?" Emily asked as she rose up from the bed. "A Sharpie marker," Kylie answered back, finding the marker and then closing the drawer.

"Alex called," Emily muttered out. "Alex? Your ex-boyfriend?" she quickly questioned. "He wants me to go homecoming with him and stupid me, told him yes," Emily spoke back in a disappointed tone. "What about??" "I know? I'm just going to have to tell Ryan no. I don't even like him," Emily quickly butted in before Kylie could finish. "You're crazy! Ryan is rich; he lives in a freaking mansion! Take advantage of this kid!" Kylie shouted at her sister. "I don't care what he has; there is no chemistry between us. But I just can't tell him no, I'm afraid he might get really upset," Emily unhappily explained. "Maybe I can pretend to be you and he won't know the difference," Kylie suggested. "Just get out. And what are you going to do with that Sharpie anyways?" Emily asked in suspicion. Kylie gave her sister a smile and ran out of her room, taking the marker along with her.

Morning soon arose and another day of school started up once again. It was already Wednesday morning and also sock day at Harven High School. Like usual the students were standing at their assigned canvas waiting for Ms. Graham to give directions. Emily innocently stood next to Ryan in fear of him mentioning the 'H' word. "I have something to tell you," Emily spoke softly. She took a deep breath and was ready to confess everything to him. Before she could speak, Ryan quickly interrupted her. "Wait let me go first! My dad booked reservations at Campo de Fiori and we are getting a limo for sure!" Ryan shouted in excitement. "Wow that's great!" Emily said, trying to use as much enthusiasm as she could. "I know! So do you have your dress yet?" Ryan asked, calming his excitement down. "Uh? yeah I just got it yesterday. That was the big news," she lied.

Ryan nodded his head and faced his canvas, waiting for the directions to be given. Emily glanced back at him and saw a huge smile arose from his face. It was the biggest smile she had ever seen in her life. His lips had risen high above his cheeks, forming a huge pocket of skin below his nose. It looked almost like a capital 'U.' Out of nowhere, pressure quickly rushed up her skull. Her head felt compressed with the pressure pushing against her. She dropped her paintbrush to the ground and began moaning quietly. "Are you alright?" Ryan politely asked her. "I think I have a migraine," Emily answered back placing her hands over her head. Ms. Graham walked into the classroom and looked at Emily. "Emily, why don't you write yourself a pass and go to the front office," Ms. Graham suggested. Emily took out a piece of notebook paper and wrote down the time, date, and location and had Ms. Graham sign it. She walked out the classroom with several eyes quickly staring at her sudden exit.

"What happened to her?" Shanda quickly demanded Ryan. "She said she has a bad headache. I think she got way too excited and couldn't control it," Ryan answered back smiling at his own little joke. "That's not really something to kid about." May reprimanded. Out came a screeching sound from out the school's speaker system. "Good morning students. Thanks to everyone who entered in for homecoming king and queen. We had a large amount of entries this year, but we have narrowed it down to the top fifteen for king and queen," Mr. Weaver announced through the loud speaker. Shanda shook her head and continued painting the picture she had already started earlier. She began swirling her brush around, blending the colors together. "?and finally Shanda Wilson," Mr. Weaver muttered out.

Shanda dropped her brush to the floor. She stood there frozen like an ice statue. 'There's gotta be a mistake, there's no way they called out my name,' she said to herself. She quickly scanned the classroom seeing several surprised faces greet her as they heard the news as well. "Shanda, you're running for homecoming queen?" May shouted out in shock. "There must be some kind of mistake because I never even entered," she spoke looking as if she robbed a bank or something. Ms. Graham walked over towards her with a friendly grin on her face. "Congratulations Shanda! I think this is a really good opportunity for you. I'm proud that you had the courage to run. I'm very happy for you and wish you good luck. I think this would really help out with your art scholarships," Ms. Graham said with sincerity in her voice. Shanda simply shook her head, refusing to take in the fame. Ms. Graham slowly drifted away from her and walked toward the front of the classroom ready to give directions to the class.

'Courage to run?' She said to herself. She looked down at her slightly plump stomach and her larger than normal thighs. Then she patted her head, feeling the texture of her braids. "May, what am I going to do? There's no way in hell I'm going to even come close. Maybe I should just drop out and then tell them that they made a mistake," Shanda suggested. "You're dropping out? Who cares if you didn't enter or not? I think you should give it a try. Besides, you should be happy you even made it." May advised her. Shanda simply shook her head. She was not ready to enter and definitely didn't want to even try. "It wouldn?t feel right. I have like no school spirit and I'm not even going to the stupid dance anyways," Shanda said disapprovingly. "Shanda come on, it will be fun. Besides you are going to the dance, no question about it," May demanded. "With who?" she asked rudely. "I don't know, but we will find somebody." May picked up her paintbrush and began painting away until the bell ending class rang.

May grabbed her things and slowly exited the classroom. She took small strides, scanning the hallways for any possible boys that would go to the dance with Shanda. A gleam quickly caught her eyes; it was Brendan. A huge smile arose on her face as she ran up towards him. "Brendan, we need to hook Shanda up with a date to homecoming." May anxiously announced. "What! What about our own homecoming? We haven't even figured that out yet. What about your parents?" he quickly questioned her. "I can figure that out later. We need to find a guy. Everyone else is probably already taken right now," she said slightly panicking. "Eww? I'm not going to help you check out guys!" Brendan said in disgust. "What about your friend Jason? Does he have a date?" May curiously asked.

Brendan's eyes quickly widen. He knew Jason would never go to the dance with Shanda. The thought was just out of the question. "No, I don't think so," he said slowly. "Great! Then we are hooking them two up." May suggested. "I'm not sure he will go with her," he said disapprovingly. "He better! Force him! Tell him it's a group thing," May commanded. Brendan nodded his head back at her. He could tell by the excitement in her voice that it meant a lot to her if Shanda went to the dance. He was quite surprised to hear she was in the top fifteen. May shook Brendan's shoulders and pointed over to the distance where Jason was standing. "There he is! Go tell him and I'll tell Shanda." May ordered him. Brendan sighed deeply, releasing a large quantity of air. He walked over to where Jason was standing.

"Jason!" Brendan called out to him. "Hey!" he responded back. Jason was standing next to Kenny along side the lockers. "Are you going to homecoming?" Brendan asked curiously. Jason gave him a blank stare. "No, I don't think so. It's a waste of money. Besides, homecoming is over rated anyways," he answered back, trying to sound all-tough. "I'm going," Kenny added. "With who?" Jason laughed at him. "Me, myself and I," Kenny responded, laughing at himself. "Come on! Just go. I know someone who would go with you," Brendan suggested. "Who? Kylie?" He said sarcastically. "I wanna go with Kylie," Kenny interrupted. "Shanda Wilson," Brendan said slowly. Sweat quickly formed above his forehead. He was afraid of Jason's reaction. Kenny immediately snorted and then laughed at his response.

However, Jason's jaw hung wide open, shocked to hear her name called out. He stood there frozen in place. "Is that a yes?" guessed Brendan. "No! I'm sorry, I can't go with her," Jason shook his head in refusal. "Why not? She needs a date, besides you will be going with someone who made top fifteen," Brendan pushed, refusing to take no as an answer. "I don't really like her," he said as an excuse. "You don't have to. It's not like you?re dating her. It's only a group thing," Brendan explained. "A group thing?" Jason said puzzled by what that really meant. "Just go with the girl," Kenny pressured him. Jason shook his head once more. "Fine, I'll go!" Jason shouted back. (Yes, I know random picture. I forgot to take a picture of this slide.)

"With Jason? I don't know. He seemed kind of down lately in class," Shanda answered back. She was standing across the hallway from where the boys were standing, talking to May who was asking her the same question. "This can cheer him up, besides it's not like your dating him. It's a group thing." May explained. "A group thing?" Shanda raised her eyebrows, confused by what that meant. "Shanda, just go. I'm sure you two will have a lot of fun." May suggested. "Alright I'll go. I can't believe you're making me do all this, girl. What about your parents? They aren't going to let you go to the dance. You told me your mom chaperoned last year," Shanda said raising her voice. "I'll lie. I'll tell them I'm not going this year. I'll just say that you are having a sleepover and I?d rather go to that than the dance." May said with devilish grin on her face. Shanda shook her head in disbelief.

"How dumb do you think they are? They would never fall for that, May!" Shanda shouted back at her. "I know, but what else am I going to do?" May asked slowly. "Whatever, I'm not responsible for you when you get in trouble," Shanda said slurring her words. "Well, we better get to class before we're late," May suggested. Shanda nodded at her and walked away slowly. 'I can't believe this is all happening, but whatever, I guess it will be fun. I mean, Jason isn't so bad,' she said to herself as she walked to her second period class.

Kylie walked into her math class and gently sat down in her seat. She pulled out her notebook and immediately began copying the notes from the board. 'This class used to be fun, until stupid Muffin Man lost his backbone,' she muttered to herself as she continued to write notes down from the board. She stopped writing as Ben walked into the doorway. She noticed a folded up piece of notebook paper in his hand. He slowly walked towards her, inching his hand with the paper closer to her. "This is for you," he said in his quiet little voice. He handed her the note with a disappointed look on his face. Kylie smiled back at him and he slowly walked towards his seat. 'I have to read this now!' she shouted in her head. She slowly unfolded the note until it was only folded in half. Promptly, she unfolded the last corner and was mesmerized to see his neat handwriting. It was the neatest handwriting she had ever seen a guy write. It was a bit loopy; however all the letters were so neatly aligned together.

She wanted to immediately read the note, but she did not want Mr. Dyer to catch her reading it. He would probably read the note out loud to the class as he did before. Then, Brendan and May walked into the classroom. She quickly scowled at the both of them. Brendan preceded to his seat, with Ben's note still visible to anyone's eyes. Kylie had no choice but to quickly stuff it away. She quickly crumbled it up into a ball and slid it inside her pocket. Brendan gave Kylie a small grin, but she quickly turned away from him. Throughout the period, Kylie wondered what the note said. She wondered if he finally accepted her offer or what mystery he possibly revealed about himself. The suspense was killing her. She felt a bit guilty for crumbling up the note, but she had no choice. Finally the bell rang and she dashed out the classroom, leaving her books behind. She ran to the library and quickly pulled out the note from her pocket.

She took the note and pulled each end from the indentation of the crumbled ball. Once each end was pulled out, she straightened it with her hand, unceasing the folds. Finally she read the following:
'Dear Kylie,
I'm sorry for ignoring you. It was childish of me to do that. Please forgive me for my rude behavior. I'm afraid so, but I must decline your offer to the dance. I'm really sorry, but I just can't go. Perhaps you can ask Kenny.'
After she was finished reading, she quickly crumbled up the note and threw it in disgust. "Ask Kenny!" she shouted out loud. She turned her head to see Brendan holding the books that she left behind. "You forgot this," he said, confused at what she was doing. "Oops!" She grabbed her belongings out of his hand, and then picked up the note that she threw on the floor.

Jason was sitting down at his desk early in his last period of the day, as usual. The board still had Miss Serenity's name on it. He looked behind him and his eyes widen as Shanda walked into the classroom. 'Crap!' he said to himself. Shanda took her seat and smiled at him through the empty seat that the lay between them. "Congrats on making top fifteen!" Jason said kindly to Shanda. "Thanks. So we are doing this 'group thing' thing together?" she asked putting emphasis on 'group thing.'"Yeah, why not," he politely answered. 'I can't believe I'm being this nice to her. After all, I was the one who entered in her,' he said to himself in disbelief. 'Wow, he's being so nice to me. Either that or he was forced,' Shanda said to herself.

"Do you know the plan on this group thing?" Jason asked. "I already talked to May about it at lunch and we are all going to meet up at my house. Come already fed," she noted to him. 'I don't want to go to her house and meet her parents,' Jason complained to himself. "That sounds good. I'll make sure I eat before coming then," he smiled back at her. "Yeah, sorry if this is all sudden. I don't have any idea how I got into top fifteen. I think May entered me in, everything sounds like it's her idea," Shanda explained. "Yeah, maybe she entered you in," he lied. Sweat quickly formed on his palms. 'There's no way I can do this. I feel so guilty,' He said to himself. "Here comes Count Dracula," Shanda warned him as Miss Serenity entered the classroom.

Morning soon came after and another day of school had begun. Emily was not looking forward to hear Ryan brag to her about homecoming. She still hadn't told him and already it was Thursday, with homecoming two days away. She continued walking through the hallways until she caught a glimpse of John. She really didn't know John too well, but he had been appearing at her lunch table often. "John!" Emily called out to him. John turned around, shocked to hear her call out his name. He walked towards her with a blank look on his face. Emily took a deep breath and told him the entire story. She told him everything including the details of her phone conversation and her slight head trauma. John was a good listener, who didn't jump to conclusions so easily.

"I need you to tell Ryan that. I can't tell him myself," she politely begged him. "Alright, I'll tell him that, but I'm not responsible for what happens afterwards," John replied back. Emily nodded her head and gave John a small hug. "Thank you so much," she said while hugging him. John immediately blushed and nodded his head back away from her. The two of them slowly walked away and headed towards their class. 'I hope everything works out alright,' she reassured herself. She felt slightly relieved; she only hoped Ryan would take in the news alright. She walked in the classroom and stood next to her assigned canvas, waiting for class to begin. She was early with only May and a few other students inside the classroom.

The sound of high heels clicking against the tiles came from outside the doorway. The sounds got louder as they got closer to the classroom. Finally the wearer emerged through the doorway. May quickly glanced over to see whom the sound was coming from. It was Shanda, wearing white high heels, a denim skirt, a huge white belt and a three quarter sleeve turquoise blouse. Her hair was straightened down, free from her braids. May's eyes widen as she saw her best friend look almost like a completely different person. "Oh my god!" May's mouth hung open. Shanda shook her head back at her. "What do think? It was my mom's idea. She said I should improve my image, if I want anyone to vote for me today," Shanda explained. "You look amazing!" Emily exclaimed.

"Thanks Emily, but I don't really like it. I mean I look so artificial. Half this hair ain't even real," Shanda complained. "It isn't?" Emily said in confusion. May and Shanda both laughed in unison. "Stop putting yourself down like that. I think you look great.? May complimented her. Shanda ran her fingers through her hair and started flipping small strands of hair in the air, showing off her new look. "Don't over do it," May suggested back. Shanda took her fingers out of her hair and grabbed her brush. She took out her painting supplies and started painting before class had even begun.

'I hope John didn't tell Ryan yet, I'm not ready to deal with him right now,' Emily thought to herself. Just then the door swung open and out came a loud stump. "Great, it's him," Emily whispered. Ryan marched over to where she was standing with a huge scowl on his face. "You effin lied!" he spat at her. "I'm sorry," Emily said softly. She tried to put on a puppy-dog face to ease the tension. "Sorry? Do you have any idea how much it costs to get this crap for homecoming? Why would you want to go with him anyways? I'm your boyfriend, not him," Ryan shouted back at her. Shanda glanced over at the two of them shouting at each other. "Leave her alone," Shanda defended Emily. Ryan took a glance at Shanda, shocked to see her new appearance.

"Shut up! Stay out of this! No one is going to vote for you anyways, so why are you even trying!" Ryan shouted back. Shanda quickly made a fist at him; she wanted to sock him in the jaw at the moment. However, she held it back. If she were to hit him, that would lead to suspension and removal from homecoming. "Ryan, calm down please. You're going to be sent to the office as soon as Ms. Graham comes in," Emily suggested. Ryan shook his head and faced the wall, trying to calm himself down. 'Why would she lie to me? And then have the guts to tell someone else the entire story. I can't believe her, I thought she loved me,' he said to himself.

"Ryan, look I'm sorry. What I did was wrong. I'm sure John hasn't told you the complete story. I talked to Alex last night and I already explained everything to him. I'm going to homecoming with you," Emily responded back. Her voice shook as she tried to explain it to him. Conversation after conversation that was about homecoming was all lies. "I can't believe her, May," Shanda whispered. Ryan slowly turned around and faced Emily. The smile had returned on his face and so did his innocence. "No, he didn't tell me that part. I'm glad you are going with me. I love you," he said sincerely. "I love you too," she said back, of course she didn't really mean it. "Liar," Shanda coughed out. May shook her head at Shanda and elbowed her in the shoulder.

Jason walked into the school building, it was already Friday morning and homecoming was the next day. He walked over to Kenny who was standing at his locker. The hallways were very vacant because he had arrived early. "Kenny, she made it into the top five," Jason said slowly. "Yeah and you have to go to the dance with her," he laughed. "She got a makeover so she's not as ugly as before," Jason defended. "Wow you?re mean. Hey, where were you that one day?" Kenny asked. "What day?" Jason responded, pretending not to know what day he meant. "Thursday of last week; you were supposed to come with us to the skate park," Kenny explained. Jason gave him a blank stare. "I don't remember that day," he lied. "Yeah, sure," Kenny responded back.

The day continued to linger on until lunch had finally approached. As usual the guys sat down at the table, with Kylie being the only girl there. Brendan had his salad and Trevor arrived last as usual. Trevor placed his tray down on the table and took his seat. "So who's skipping the prep rally?" he asked. "The prep rally?" Kenny said in confusion. "It's the homecoming assembly, it's a pep rally, but I like to call it 'prep rally' because, well the title says it all," Trevor explained. "Count me in, if it's anything like the pep rallies at my old school. I don't want to go," Kylie added in.

"I can't skip. I'm on the yearbook club. I have to take pictures," Brendan refused. "I don't think I feel like skipping," Jason answered. "I want to see the cheerleaders fly in the air," Kenny said with excitement. "You won't see anything. Their shirts are too low for a reason," Trevor answered back. "I'll skip," Ben joined in. Their eyes immediately lit up the second he announced it. "Ben, you're going to skip with us? Are you sure?" Trevor asked like he was some little kid. "I don't really want to sit on the bleachers next to a hundreds of screaming kids," he answered slowly. They all laughed in unison as they found his excuse quite humorous.

The lunch period continued on until finally the bell ending lunch rang. They all threw their plates and food away and headed out of the lunchroom. Instead of heading towards the gym for the assembly Trevor, Kenny, Kylie and Ben all cautiously headed to an empty hallway. They watched each corner, insuring that no one was watching. Finally they pushed open the back doors and exited the school and walked over to the school's courtyards. "It's so nice to get some fresh air," Kylie added. She walked over to the bench near the tree and sat down. "Just wondering, what school did you use to go to?" Trevor curiously asked. "I went to Rockview," she said slowly.

"I used to go there too. I went there my freshman year then I moved here. I'm still dating a girl from Rockview," Trevor answered back. "So are you going to their homecoming?" Kylie asked curiously. "Yeah, I am." Trevor admitted. "Well have fun! The DJ plays oldies," she said sarcastically. "This is boring! I could be in the gym watching the cheerleaders," Kenny complained.

"Go ahead, leave us. No one's forcing you," Trevor reminded him. "Ben, come on let's just go in the gym. If we don't leave now all the seats are going to be taken, and we are going to end up standing," Kenny complained. "I don't want to go," Ben answered softly. Kenny grabbed his arm and pulled him along with him. The two of them walked away and headed into the school, leaving Kylie and Trevor alone.

"Now what?" she asked in boredom. "We could leave the school. I could drive you home or we could go somewhere," Trevor smoothly suggested. "Like where?" she said disapprovingly. "I don't know. Are you hungry?" Trevor lazily asked. "We just had lunch," she said sarcastically. "Why don't we go to Rockview and invade their school? There's something I gotta tell someone," her voice grew with excitement. "Sounds fun and who is this someone?" he asked puzzled by who this person was. "I'm not telling you," she gave him a wink.

"That was a good homecoming game, wasn't it May?" May's father asked while opening the front door of their house. The family slowly entered the house, arriving back from Harven's homecoming football game. May sighed and walked over to the couch. She sat down on the couch with her body slumped onto the soft padding. 'How embarrassing was that? They practically watched me and not the game,' May thought to herself. She slowly pounded the couch releasing some of the tensions within her. Her mother walked over to her and sat down beside her. "So I'm guessing you aren't going to the dance tomorrow?" her mother said in a tone that made May want to scream. "No, I'm not." May responded back. Her mother quickly put on a face of relief.

"Oh," her mother said trying to sound disappointed. "Instead Shanda is having a sleepover tomorrow," May replied back. "A sleepover? What will you being doing there and who is going to be there?" her mother demanded. "Girls stuff. You know, watching movies, eating popcorn, gossiping, doing each other?s hair. Her parents will be there," May said trying to convince her mother. "Just you and Shanda?" her mother asked, expecting more people to be there. "Well a few other girls, like Brenda and Jasmine," she answered, quickly turning Jason and Brendan's names into girls. "Who is Brenda and Jasmine?" her eyebrows rose. "Friends from school, you don't know them." May explained. "Well if her parents are going to be there, then I say yes. I need to speak with her mother first," her mother answered. May bit her tongue; she wasn't sure if Shanda told her mother the plan or not.

May sat down on the couch awaiting the results of the phone call. She sat there nervously rehearsing what possible conversation her mother could have had with Shanda's. The cushions of the couch now felt hard like stone. The anticipation quickly dragged on and on, killing whatever patience she had. Finally she heard a beep sound come out from the kitchen; next followed the sound of the phone being placed back on the receiver. May took a deep breath and jumped out of her seat, rushing towards her mother. "Well," May said in excitement. "I spoke to her mother about it and everything sounded alright. She said to drop you off at 5:30 tomorrow evening," her mother answered back. Smiles quickly arose on May's cheeks. "Thanks mom," she said politely. Her mother nodded her head and watched May hastily skip off to her room.

"Mom, that's Shanda's house." May pointed the house out to her mother, whom just passed it. Her mother placed her foot on the break pedal and then shifted the gear in reverse. She slowly and carefully backed her way in their driveway and placed the car in park. May unlocked her door and slid the front chair forwards, grabbing her bag out from the backseats. Once she held her bag in her hand, she followed the path to the front door and rang the bell. Her mother soon followed after her. "You're going inside?" May asked in surprise. "Why not? It would be rude not," her mother explained. The front door soon opened and a lady came to greet them at the door. "Hi, I'm Keesha, Shanda's mother. Come inside," she greeted them friendly.

You know my number and I know yours. I'll probably call a couple times to check up on her," May's mother suggested. "Sure, no problem. Ok, well nice meeting you," she gave her a friendly smile. "Bye May. Have fun, be good." She walked towards the front door and exited the house. As she exited, May gently closed the door then quickly locked it.

"Yes! She's gone!" May shouted in relief. "Dang May! You're mother seems nice," Shanda responded back. "So when are the guys coming?" May curiously asked. "Seven o'clock. That gives us enough time to eat and get ready. I already told the guys to come already fed," Shanda laughed. "An hour and a half to get ready? Do you seriously think we need that much time?" May questioned. "Well and pictures too. Don't worry, the dance isn't until eight," Shanda reassured her. The girls headed up to Shanda's bedroom, leaving May's bag behind. 'Wow her view on homecoming has suddenly changed. She's actually excited about the whole thing,' May said to herself as she walked along with Shanda.

The girls ate and then got ready for the dance. Brendan was the first to arrive at their house and then Jason arrived several minutes later. Both boys sat on the couch waiting for the girls to come out and ready for the dance. Shanda's dad came and greeted both boys, while Shanda's mom helped the girls get ready. "You guys want something to drink?" her dad asked with his deep voice. "No thanks, I'm fine," Brendan answered politely. "No, I'm good." Jason answered. Her dad walked over towards them and sat down on his recliner. "You play any sports?" he asked looking Jason directly in the eye. "I skateboard and I play a little hockey and baseball," he answered back.

He quickly stared into Jason's eyes. Jason's heart immediately started pounding. He could not bear to look into her father's eyes. His eyes were piercing at him, ready to attack him. "Not much, sir," he politely answered back. "I thought so. Didn't you ever play ball with your old man?" he asked him, raising his eyebrows "No. My dad left me a week after I was born. They were engaged and suppose to be wed," he sadly answered. "So it was a shotgun wedding?" her father responded. Jason gave him a blank stare.

Jason muttered out unable to give him a good answer. "Michael, the girls are ready," Shanda's mom called out. Jason sighed back in relief, holding his stomach from the question he didn't have to answer. Brendan came out of the bathroom; jaw dropping as he laid eyes on both girls. Both girls looked stunning in their dresses with their make-up and hair all done. They both gave their dates a huge smile.

Shanda's mother went into the room and grabbed her camera, ready to take pictures of the four. "This is for you," Jason said, handing Shanda a bouquet of roses. "Thanks," she replied back, shocked to even receive them. "Shanda, why don't we tone down your eye shadow down a bit? I think we put on too much Aubergine Dreams," her mother suggested. Shanda set down the bouquet and headed to the bathroom with her mother. Shanda's father continued to stare at Jason as he stood there next to Brendan. The four of them patiently waited until Shanda came out of the bathroom again. Shanda's mother took out her camera and took several pictures of the teens. The doorbell soon rung after, Shanda's dad walked up to the door and twisted the doorknob. An older man wearing a tuxedo greeted them at the door. "Your ride awaits," he said formally. Jason looked out through the open doorway to see a limousine parked in front of the house.

He gazed at the limousine, seeing its black exterior sparkle at him. The guilt quickly struck at him, gnawing away his insides. He could not go through with what he had done. The simple prank caused her to change; she became more polite and lady-like. Yet somehow a feeling inside was suddenly falling for the changes. He didn't want to admit his feelings for her. He tried shaking it away, but he couldn't. "Hey, you better not do anything crazy to my daughter," her father whispered into his ear. Jason nervously shook inward as reality slowly came back at him. He was still standing inside the house, while the rest were already outside waiting to get inside the limo. "Have fun guys!" Shanda's mother shouted from inside the house. Jason walked over to the limo where the other three were standing. The chauffeur opened the door for them and the four of them rushed inside, with Jason being the last one in. The chauffeur closed the door and entered the driver's seat.

"Welcome to Harven High School's homecoming dance," a woman greeted them as she collected their tickets. The four of them stood in amazement as they looked at the dance floor ahead of them. An enormous banner that read, 'A Night Under Stars' was hung on the ceiling above them. Their cafeteria was no longer an eating-place. The walls were covered with dark wallpaper with sparkly lights that made you felt like you were in space. "Wow," Shanda said in amazement. The four of them approached the dance floor, looking for an area to dance. Eyes quickly glared at the two girls as they walked along with the guys. A handful of snickers and whispers followed after the stares. However, the girls ignored them. The music was too loud and lights were pulsating in very direction.

"Hey!" Emily called out to the four who were standing in an empty location. She walked over towards them with Ryan tagging behind. Jason looked away, avoiding eye contact with Ryan. "Wow you guys look great," Emily complimented them. "Thanks," Shanda answered modestly. "So do you think you're actually going to become homecoming queen? I mean you're only a sophomore. It's rare that it would happen. I voted for you," Emily replied back. "I don't really care about that right now. I just want to have fun," Shanda answered back. "Where's your sister?" May asked rudely. "She's not here. She went to Rockview's homecoming," Emily answered back sadly. "Good," May whispered quietly. Brendan eye's rose the second he heard her comment.

"Come on let's dance," May suggested grabbing Brendan by the arm and dragging him out onto the dance floor. May started shaking her hips and moving her arms along with the music. Brendan just stood there shaking like a vibrating statue. "What kind of dance is that?" May shouted out in laughter. "I don't know," he answered quickly feeling embarrassed. 'If only DDR dances helped in real life,' he said to himself.

"Shanda can I see you for a moment," a lady asked her. She appeared to be older, obvious a chaperone or staff member. "Sure," she answered back. She followed the lady over to where she had a camera and a backdrop set up. "I'm just going to take a couple of pictures for the newspaper and the yearbook. Can you just stand there and look relaxed? That's perfect! Now give me a smile! Now envy! Now malice! Now give me something that's screaming attention!" the photographer shouted out as she took several different shots of Shanda. Jason stared at her from a distance as she was being photographed at different angles and poses. She looked like a fashion model standing there as she made each pose. 'What did I do? I've ruined her,' he said to himself.

The dance continued to linger on and on. Song after song, the students would dance. They would dance and dance until they needed a break and would get some punch. Ryan stood along side Emily, dancing with her to the beat of the song. Ryan stared into Emily's eyes; however a glint of sorrow remained in them. "I know you're still upset about not going to Rockview's homecoming," Ryan said softly. "It doesn't matter, I'm with you," she answered back. "Yeah, I know. But I know you?d rather be at Rockview with your old friends, you probably miss them," Ryan commented. "It's too late anyways, we are already here," Emily said disapprovingly. "Take the limo. If you go now then you will still have an hour left," Ryan suggested. "I couldn't," Emily muttered. "Go now!" Ryan ordered her.

"Thanks," she said as tears nearly formed from under her eyes. She took one last look at Ryan and gave him a huge hug. He smiled back at her and watched her drift slowly away, leaving the cafeteria. 'Only a hug?' he said to himself expecting more. He walked over to the corner of the cafeteria where the people who weren't dancing were seated. They were all sitting against the poorly lighted walls lonesome and depressed. Ryan slowly walked over there and joined them in their lonesome corner. "Here's a slow one for those couples out there," the DJ announced. Ryan pouted as he watched boy and girl quickly match up and dance together to the slow song. He even saw John dancing along with a girl.

Brendan had his hands held against May's lower back, while May held hers slightly below his shoulders. They both swayed back and forth, moving closer and closer to one another. "Look at them." May whispered happily. Brendan glanced over to May's shoulder to see Jason and Shanda both dancing along together. "Wow! They look so good together," he said in amazement. "I told you it was a good idea.? May answered back. "You're good at this," Jason complimented Shanda. "Thanks," Shanda said modestly.

"I can't believe he's dancing with her," a voice complained from the corner. Ryan looked over at the corner to see who was speaking. It was Kenny sitting alone in the corner along with the many others. "With Jason?" Ryan butted in. "Yes, Jason and Shanda," Kenny answered back. "Since when did they become a couple?" Ryan asked in confusion. "I don't know but it was supposed to be a prank. He's taking things too far." Kenny answered back. Ryan's eyes quickly opened wide, the second he heard 'prank.' "What do you mean prank?" he asked eyebrows rising. "We wanted to enter some ugly girl as homecoming queen and he picked her. Apparently she got a makeover and then he was forced to date her. It's all a joke, but he seems to be enjoying it," Kenny answered back.

Ryan's eyes quickly lit up. He continued to stare at the two of them dancing together in harmony, both bodies swayed in unison and in sync with the music. He couldn't stand it anymore. He was jealous of him and wanted revenge. Ryan cautiously lifted his body up from the floor and walked over to where the two were dancing. "Shanda, can I talk to you for a second?" Ryan called out. "What does he want?" Jason whispered into Shanda's ear. "Ryan, I'm busy," she answered politely. "Please, I have to tell you something." Ryan added in. "Ryan!" she shouted at him. "Shanda, take your hands off Jason. He's a fraud, a fake! He entered you in as homecoming queen as a joke and now he's dancing with you as part two of the prank," Ryan confessed to her. Shanda slowly removed her hands from Jason?s shoulder. She slowly backed away from him, looking at him disgustedly.

"Please don't tell me this is true," she spoke softly. "It is, but I can explain," Jason answered sincerely. "Forget it! I don't want to hear it!" she shouted back at him. Tears quickly rolled down her cheeks, smearing her eyeliner and forming a huge line underneath her eyes. She drifted away from him, running towards the bathroom. 'I can't believe he would do that to me. I was starting to like him,' she said to herself, lips slightly quivering. Her face became itchy and irritated from the makeup that smothered her face. The prank was revealed, and the tears and sorrow had arrived. Once she walked into the bathroom, she joined the other sobbing girls who were just as upset, if not more than she was.

Jason glared at Ryan violently. Ryan was standing there smiling, like he was some super hero who had just saved the day. Jason flared his nostrils at Ryan, but the smile still remained on his face. Jason couldn't take it anymore; he had to say something. He had to take action. "Why the hell would you tell her that? Do you think it's your job to ruin people's lives? You think you have the right to put people in clubs they don't want to join? You think you can take some nerd and turn him into you? Why do you have to act like that? Does it make you feel good inside to watch others suffer? Your girlfriend doesn't even like you!" Jason shouted to Ryan. The smile was quickly washed off of Ryan's face and now Ryan was ready for the rebuttal.

"You know what; you need to shut the hell up! You are the one who did the prank! Not me! And how the hell do you know Emily doesn't like me? And what, you are suddenly in love with Shanda? You like her or something? Wow, let's add some makeup, nice clothes and some weave and suddenly we have this year's prom queen," Ryan answered back, putting great emphasis on his last line. Jason couldn't take it anymore; he was ready to sock Ryan a good one. He formed his hand into a fist and dug it straight into Ryan's face. The music suddenly stopped, the lights spotlighted on where they were standing, and a crowd of students watched as the two boys fought. "Oh!" the crowd shouted out. Ryan's head swung back, swore and beat up from the impact. Ryan quickly shifted over to his right, and then made a fist. Like Jason, he also dug his hand straight into Jason's face.

"Oh!" the crowd shouted out. Jason growled back at him. With both hands Jason made a fist and swung both arms at Ryan. This time, instead of digging his hands into Ryan?s face, Jason made small rapid punches at Ryan. He continued to punch at him, like he was some kind of punching bag. Eventually Ryan fell to the floor, beaten up and bruised. The crowd roared and cheered at Jason when they saw Ryan hit the floor. Brendan and May only stood away at a distance. A crowd of people surrounded them and there was no way they could stop the fight now. Blood oozed out of Ryan's mouth. He started coughing slowly as he watched his old best friend stare at him from above. 'I can't lose now,' Ryan thought to himself. Ryan inched his way off the ground, wiggling his way up like a silk worm. Finally he stood on both feet and stared at Jason cautiously. 'How am I gonna beat him? He always wins at arm wrestling,' Ryan said to himself.

Then Ryan saw an opening that he hadn't seen earlier. His huge signature smile quickly rose to his face, giving Jason a confused look. "Why are you smiling?" Jason demanded. Ryan did not answer back; instead he continued smiling. He lifted his right foot and kicked straight towards Jason in the same opening he saw earlier. Ryan pushed his foot forward and heard a loud moan come from Jason. He slowly fell to the ground holding the area where he was kicked. "That ain't fair!" the crowd shouted him. "You kicked me in the ba?" Jason muttered out, only to be interrupted when the principal came to stand beside the two. "You two get over here now!" Mr. Weaver shouted at the two of them. Jason got up from the ground and walked disfigured, following Ryan and Mr. Weaver to the principal's office.
