Welcome to The Legacy of the Fae, Chapter 2: Aeval's Escapades. As you might have guessed from the cover (and title) this is going to be all about Aeval. She is going to be the second generation heiress for this legacy, thanks to all of the wonderful people who voted for her. If you haven't read the first chapter, I advise you to, as you might be a little bit lost. We are going to chronicle Aeval's college experience. Here goes...

Aeval Mirth, in her first year of college, was quite desperate for money. Despite her scholarship, she could barely pay for her tuition, let alone her books and materials. Instead of trying to find a job on campus, she was quite sure of her cosmetology skills, and charged fellow students a small fee for makeovers. Some of them were quite pleased.

But others were outraged at the results. "Listen you stupid woman, if you don't remove this makeup immediately, I will kill you," one customer grunted after she had botched up his makeover. "And then, missy, I don't ever want to see you again." After Aeval wiped his face clean, he pushed himself from his chair and brushed past Aeval, knocking her down in the process.

With this threat in mind, she sought alternative housing, and decided to join a fraternity. When the boys came by to pick up their new pledge, Aeval's youngest brother Asleif had a friendly warning for them.
"You better not hurt her in anyway, or you will have me to answer to," he said with a sly grin.

When Aeval moved into the frat house, she felt quite at ease, but she was a little bit lonely. She wasn't very close to any of the boys, and she was used to being surrounded by her family. She spent a lot of her time alone, playing pinball or video games.

Castor Nova felt bad for Aeval. She was living in a pigsty with a bunch of boys. He didn't understand why she didn't just join the sorority. Nevertheless, he made an effort to befriend the poor girl.
She was sitting alone, as usual, playing video games when he approached her. "Is this a two player game."
Aeval nodded. "Yeah. It's a racing game. Want to play?"
Castor grinned and raised his eyebrows, "You couldn't beat me if you tried."
The two quickly became friends.

He glanced up at her over their chessboard while contemplating his next move. He inhaled, marveling over her beauty and the intensity of her clear blue eyes. She was enchanting to watch.
"Castor? Are you listening to me?" Aeval asked, laughing at the spacey look on Castor's face.
"What?" Castor inquired, coming out of his daydream.
"I was just asking you if you knew whether or not Ashley was single. He's so good-looking. I want to tell him so, but there's no chance he would be interested in me," Aeval said, reiterating her last thoughts.
"Oh, yeah," Castor muttered, "He's single."
Aeval grinned and went back to concentrating on chess, not bothering to realize the dejection that had slipped into Castor's expression.

Aeval walked into the living room to find Ashley sitting on the couch. She tried not to stare at him, but the part of her that was fae came to life. A warm glow emenated around Ashley, like the warm sensation spreading through Aeval's heart.
"Hey Aeval," Ashley greeted, turning around to face the girl. "Want to watch some TV?"
"Oh, uh, y-y-yes," Aeval stuttered and walked tentatively toward the vacant seat on the couch. Despite the space between them, she felt the warmth of his body heat. Her heart thudded desperately in her chest. She stood up, afraid to be near him much longer.

"Hey, where you going?" Ashley asked, as a slow, sweet smile slid accross his face.
"Oh, just grabbing something to eat," Aeval replied, grinning nervously.
Ashley nodded and stood up beside Aeval. She glanced at him and gave him a puzzled look. "What are you doing?" she asked.

He leaned close to her and whispered in her ear, "You're beautiful." He captured her mouth with his own and cradled her head with his hand. He was everything Aeval had ever hoped for. But this was only the beginning. He cooked her dinner, kissed her softly every night, and promised her forever.
|

But forever didn't last very long. One of Ashley's professors was a very young, very beautiful woman. She was not much older than her youngest students, and she had a thing for younger men. Ashley had always wanted to date an older woman, so one day after class, he caught up to her as she was leaving the building.
"Professor Bradshaw?" he inquired with wide, blue innocent eyes. "I was just wondering if you could help me out with some difficulties I've been experiencing with your math problems."
She smiled sweetly, "Sure, Ashley. And call me Jen. I'm not much older than you."
"I know," Ashley said calmly with fire in his eyes, and took a step closer to his teacher, attempting to embrace her.
|

She pushed him away. "Ashley, I'm flattered, but this isn't a good idea."
Ashley turned scarlet and began to walk away. It was a stupid idea anyway. He wouldn't be fulfilling anything.
"Wait," Jennifer halted him. "I just mean, someone could easily see us, and I could lose my job. Is there anywhere more private we could go?"

Despite his better judgement, Ashley took his professor home with him. She kissed him passionately upon arrival to his home. He returned the kiss with equal fervor. He just hoped that Aeval wasn't home. She would be crushed.

He led Jen to the hot tub in the backyard. The two stripped down to their undergarments and slid into the warm water. Ashley drew his professor into his arms. This was one heck of a fantasy he was about to fulfill.

Jen pounced on Ashley, kissing his lips, his face his neck. Ashley grinned at his teacher's enthusiasm. Until he heard a soft gasp from behind him.
|

Aeval stood there, shocked and bewildered. She was too numb to feel much of anything. She just turned around and walked away.
|
| |
Created: 09.20.2006 - Updated: 09.20.2006
Ashley clambored out of the hot tub and chased after Aeval. "I'm so sorry," he exclaimed. "I didn't mean to hurt you. I just..." he trailed off, not knowing what else to say.
"You just didn't care about me enough to stay faithful," Aeval finished for him. She shook her head in disgust and walked inside, leaving Ashley blubbering his apologies to his professor.

Once Aeval stepped inside, the realization that everything was falling apart hit her hard. Hot, salty tears erupted from her eyes, and her body trembled with anger and sadness.
Castor approached Aeval, spun her around and enveloped her in a comforting hug. "I'm so sorry this happened to you. I should have warned you." He stroked her hair and let her cry until she couldn't cry anymore.
|

She drew away and tried to smile. "That's a good girl," Castor said with a goofy grin. "I predict that you're going to be just fine."
Aeval squinted at him, "You look different," she said.
Castor laughed. "Nah, my hair has just gotten too long. You just haven't noticed until now. Don't worry, I'll be back to the good ol' Castor you know and love by tomorrow."
Aeval smiled through her sadness. She was glad to have such a good friend.

The next day, Ashley approached Castor as if nothing had happened. "Hey, man. What's going on?" he asked with a friendly grin.
"Are you serious?" Castor asked incredulously.

"You just broke the most beautiful, most amazing woman's heart, and all you can say is 'What's up man?' You're a jerk!" Castor exploded, took a deep breath, and walked away. It had taken every ounce of strength not to punch Ashley.
|

Aeval walked into the room after Castor left to find Ashley staring blankly at an empty cereal bowl. Aeval gritted her teeth, held her breath, and sat down next to Ashley. It hurt just to look at him, but she knew the importance of not letting him see how much he affected her. "Hey, Ashley," she greeted him softly.
His eyes darted up to meet Aeval's. He was surprised that she would talk to him so soon. Maybe she was ready to forgive him. "Hey, sweetheart. Look, I'm really sorry about la--"
Aeval cut him off, "Forget it. It was nothing. But I'm not your sweetheart anymore."
|
| |
Created: 09.20.2006 - Updated: 09.20.2006
"I saw you talking to Aeval earlier. She's not yours anymore!" Castor yelled at Ashley as he walked by after eating breakfast.
"Yeah, well she's not yours either," Ashley said gruffly and tried to continue walking upstairs, but Castor pushed him down.
|
| |
Created: 09.20.2006 - Updated: 09.20.2006
Aeval rushed into the room, hearing the boys break into a fight. Castor stood over Ashley, obviously the victor. She knew it was mean, but she felt no sympathy for Ashley. She saw Castor in a new light. He could be strong, and he was sweet, and he was cute. She wondered why she never saw it before.
She rushed over to hug him, leaving Ashley to sulk alone. In Castor's arms, she felt safe. He was her best friend. He leaned down and kissed her cheek, but she pulled away. She just wasn't ready.
|

But with a lot of time and a little coaxing, Aeval melted in Castor's arms.
|

The pair became inseperable, cuddling on the couch, declaring the same major, going to class together. Ashley faded into the background of Aeval's mind, while Castor became elevated on a platform.
|
| |
Created: 09.20.2006 - Updated: 09.20.2006
But Ashley truly regretted what he had done to Aeval. He knew he had been stupid and selfish. Aeval should have been his highest priority. He approached her again to apologize.
"Aeval. I was a pig. I was a stupid, awful pig. I'm sorry. I was sorry the moment I did it, and I'm still sorry. I beg you to forgive me," he pleaded, nervously rubbing his hands together.
|
| |
Created: 09.20.2006 - Updated: 09.20.2006
"I forgive you Ashley. I shouldn't have held a grudge for so long. It was just a silly fling that we had. We can definitely be friends," Aeval said with a smile.
"Thank you so much. I know I can never make it up to you, but I'll surely be a better friend than I was a boyfriend," Ashley promised.

But being near Aeval just made him want more, so Ashley updated his look a bit for his junior year. He wanted to impress her, claim her as his again.

He practiced playing guitar in his room everyday. He would write her a love song. He would win her back - not to own her, not to keep her as his plaything, but to love her, unconditionally forever.

Aeval made hamburgers one day for the three occupants of the frat household, but Castor was too busy studying to come to lunch. That left Ashley alone with Aeval. He stared at her as she picked up her burger to take a bite. He swallowed the fear bubbling in his throat and blurted, "Aeval, I love you."
|
| |
Created: 09.20.2006 - Updated: 09.20.2006
Aeval's eyes widened. Secretly, she had wanted this since the moment Ashley had broken her heart. He had changed the way he looked, but had he really changed his attitude? And even if he did, she was with Castor now. How could she even think about hurting him? She was so shocked she couldn't speak. She just stood up and left the room.
|

Created: 09.20.2006 - Updated: 09.20.2006
Ashley retreated to his room to work on the love song he was preparing for Aeval. He knew she still loved him, but he didn't want to push her. He was so stupid to blurt that out over lunch.
"Well, here it goes, Aeval. This is for you," Ashley whispered as he quietly strummed his guitar. " You're here and you're gone like a vapor of smoke trailing your way through my heart. You're an enigma of everything I want but can't have and you've left me alone in the dark. But cast your light upon me, baby, and I will be your star."
Ashley groaned. "Ugh, it sounds horrible. This is ridiculous. I don't know what I'm doing. I should just let Castor have her." He flopped down on bed and closed his eyes, wishing he could turn back time.
|

Aeval had overheard the song Ashley had been singing. She knew it was for her, so she approached him about it, intending to be firm about her feelings for Castor.
But when she saw Ashley in the living room, without a shirt and with vulnerability all over his face, she couldn't reprimand him. "I heard you singing. It was really nice," she said.
Ashley's eyes lit up. "You really like it? It's for you."
"I know," Aeval said. Her eyes teared up. "I can't do this right now, Ashley." She ran outside, but Ashley followed her.
|
| |

He grabbed her and pulled her to him, holding onto her tightly. His lips descended on hers. They were rough and demanding, but at the same time tender and soft. Aeval resisted at first, but she couldn't fight the passion that was building inside her. So she kissed him back, just as hard.
Castor walked out the front door to head to his only night class. He saw them together. Anger bubbled inside, but he held it down. He had to go to class.
|
| |
Created: 09.20.2006 - Updated: 09.20.2006
After class he walked into Aeval's bedroom to find her laying on her bed, staring at the ceiling. She jumped up when she saw him, timid and unsure of herself.
"I saw you with him," he started calmly. "What the hell were you doing? I took you after he cheated on you. I made you mine! And now this!" His voice rose with every sentence. "Well you can't have both of us, so who is it gonna be? Him!? Or me?"

So who do you guys think Aeval should be with? Keep in mind, that this is the person she will be continuing the Legacy challenge with.
First contender: Ashley. He cheated on Aeval with his professor, but he realized his mistake, realized his love, and tried to win Aeval over. No matter what. But did he cross the line? And was his mistake even forgivable to begin with?
|
| |
Created: 09.20.2006 - Updated: 09.20.2006
Second contender: Castor. He loved Aeval from the second he saw her. He comforted her after her breakup with Ashley and eventually won her over. But was he too pushy in insisting she be his? And was he trying to be too controlling?
You all decide. Let me know what you think in my guestbook or over at boolprop.com.
