This is second release for part two of Sunrise, Sunset. I decided to change things a few things around, so some parts might be different from the original release. Please read the first part of the series, otherwise you might get confused.
Note: This story contains some horrifying images. Not recommended for the easily spooked.

I still thought about her endlessly. Her sweet voice still echoed through my head. Her exotic beauty still burned scars in my eyes. I wanted more than anything to still be with her. I couldn't stop thinking about her. She was a plague that never departed. The topic of every single one of my conversations. I couldn't go ten minutes without thinking about her. I dreamt of her every night. Each dream would be a nightmare and each nightmare would be a dream. She was the angel of my nightmares, saving me from each evil that lurked within. If only she was real. If only she was right in my room, lying right beside me. Then maybe we could...

Soon, my eyes were wide open again. I was daydreaming like usual, of a false reality that only existed in the inner depths of my head. Everything was once again ordinary; nothing really changed at all. The sands of the hourglass still dripped as slowly as ever. The cool crisp autumn air had frozen over, leaving us in an artic chill. The leaves have all fallen, decaying themselves onto the cold earth. The once piles of vivid colors now deteriorated themselves into dull brown specks of dust. Nature's beauty had died and now left us with a wintry blanket of deadly white diamonds, which would sting if you touched them with your bare hands.
The dark ultramarine sky was now brightening into a morning hue. I couldn't sleep; tomorrow was the last day of school before we were off for the winter holidays. If only I could just shut my eyes and get some rest, then everything would be okay. But I couldn't, I was scared of what I would dream.

My dreams got worse with each passing night. Nightmares so frightening, they made me cringe just to remember one. The night before, I dreamt I was strapped down onto a cold rusty old table. My body was chained down by old worn-out leather belts that gave my skin rashes. If things couldn't have gotten worse, my body was surrounded by a plethora of sharp metal objects. Tacks, needles, pushpins, blades, knives, daggers, swords... they were all laying on the table around my frightened body. If I tried to wiggle out and escape, the sharp ends of the metal would pierce my skin. Escape was inaccessible and nearly impossible. I had but no choice to simply rest there on the table and wait for death to take its turn.

Then I heard it, the cries of death and the sounds of metal clashing against one another. The murderer walked towards me and held the chainsaw in his hands He first started with the feet and worked his way up, slicing bits and pieces off of my body. My heart pounded with fury, the pain was simply unbearable and my head throbbed for that unachievable freedom. Then the murderer lowered the chainsaw towards my heart, the only organ that beats in such a rhythmic pattern. I could feel the thin air between my skin and the chain. I gasped slowly as my life was to be taken and then miraculously the chainsaw stopped. Right behind the murderer was Arienette watching his every move. The murderer lowered the chainsaw and walked away. I woke up soon after that. The dream was far too terrifying and I was even more scared of what tonight would bring.

I closed my eyes once again, but still nothing. I tried once again keeping my mind free of any thoughts and visualizing a small dot that kept getting larger and larger with each second. Still it didn't work. I eventually gave up and opened my eyes. I then rubbed them vigorously to keep myself awake. I probably had major baggage under my eyes by now. I took a deep breath then slowly crawled out of my bed and walked over to the mirror. I then gazed into it and then took a good look at myself. My hair was a mess and my eyes looked so tired and sleepy. With my right hand I started patting down on the top if my head, fixing my hair so I didn't look like a complete mess. Once I was finished, I looked deeply into the mirror and looked at myself once again. I did look pretty hot, I must say. I laughed silently and turned back around to head towards the bed.

For a brief second I saw a sparkle flash into the mirror. I thought it was nothing, just my imagination toying with me once again. Just to be safe, I walked back towards the mirror and looked deeply into the reflection to find that sparkle once again. 'Where could it be coming from?' I wondered. I then started tapping on the glass, like that was actually going to do something. The sparkle got larger as I kept tapping on the mirror. I stopped, and then tiptoed my way to my bed. I needed to get some rest. I must be hallucinating or something. I crawled underneath my bed sheets and closed my eyes once again. I tried to keep them closed so I could maybe fall asleep to make the morning finally come. At first I thought only my eyes were disarrayed, but then I started feeling the bed shake.

I felt something crawl upon my shoulders. Its touch felt so unpleasant and most definitely was not my own hair. I looked down at my shoulder scanning each one closely; I saw nothing. I dusted off each one, lightly ensuring myself that feeling would soon disappear. I shook my head and closed my eyes, promising myself that I would fall asleep this time. I kept my eyes closed for a good 5 minutes until I felt something grab onto me. At first it was just a gentle tap and before I knew it this thing started grabbing my head. The grabbing was very human-like; I could feel their digits press on my skull. Before I could even move, I was paralyzed by the intense pressure of their fingers. I felt the figure move closer towards me. Its arms brushed against my hair and their knees were dug straight into my shoulders.

The figure moved closer towards me once again. I could finally see it's face and immediately it reminded me of that creature from Ju-on (The Grudge). It had pale gray skin, along with dark hair that covered its dark eyes, hidden by a shadow. Its lips looked awfully familiar and were nearly in the same condition as Arienette's. It looked rough and aged with cuts and scars all over. Suddenly the thought of kissing Arienette didn't sound too appealing.

And before I could even visualize that happening, the creature started twitching. Combinations of heat and cold soon took place within the creature's self. Before I could even imagine what it might possibly be doing, it went inside me like some kind of ghost, trying to overtake my body. Its arms pierced through me like a needle through cloth. And like a parasitic worm it started to feed off my insides. I was still unconscious and unable to move, I could only feel the pain take place.

I had to take my mind off of the pain. I had to somehow find that needle in the haystack. Hope was the only thing I had left; and it had finally arrived. There, standing in the corner of the room was an angel. Her wingless body had taken flight and was now ready to rescue me. She watched me suffer like always, although this time I felt her watching meant more. It was like her eyes were weapons and all she had to do was simply stare. Immediately I felt at ease, the creature soon exited my body and drifted off into the distance. I felt my vitals return and there standing in the corner was the treasure I longed desired.

"Stay with me Arienette..." I whispered from the bed. Her face remained expressionless even as I cried for her company. From the corner, she took small strides towards me. Her walk was unbalanced and unsteady. She nearly wobbled as she drew closer. Then she looked at me, with such a sincere expression. I smiled with excitement of what she might possibly say. Then her lips moved slowly one after the other. "I'll wait for you..." she spoke in a soft tone voice. Before I could even say yes, she disappeared in the midst. "...until the wolves are away," I finished, but she was nowhere in sight.

Sweat, tears, the intense feeling of waking up after a nightmare, all soon greeted me as I woke. I slowly opened my eyes allowing them to adjust to the bright sunlight blinding me from my window. "Another dream..." I whispered in a hush sound. With my right hand I wiped all the sweat that had formed all over my face. After that I soon crawled out of bed and walked into the bathroom to wash up. I then returned back to my bedroom and dressed myself. After I was ready, I took once last glance in the mirror checking if anything would sparkle. I grabbed my coat and backpack and put them on. After I was all situated I headed out the door, forgetting breakfast like usual.

I walked past the small path that lead up to my house all the way to the sidewalk and waited for Rei to come. I stood there in the freezing cold for about two minutes until I saw him coming down the street. His mouse brown hair looked frozen, as if he didn't dry it out fully and the remaining water now froze up.
"Hey Kyo, did you sleep well?" Rei asked smiling like a kid in a candy shop. "Yeah, I guess so." "Tell me about your dream," Rei said eagerly. "Another nightmare, then she comes in and saves the day," I answered. "Sounds fun, I wish I had nightmares," Rei replied playfully. I laughed back in unison. Then we headed down the sidewalk to school, meeting Hideaki along the way.

Rei always brought a smile to my face. He was the only one that believed my crazy stories. Not Hideaki, Sonata, or even my own parents believed that I had seen zombies in the forest. It hadn't been long until I became known as a freak, a lunatic or at worse a psychopath. Rei was also very interested in my dreams. In my chainsaw dream, he told me that if I shook my arms one after another the straps would eventually shake the table and one of the knives was bound to cut me free.
"So, are you excited? It's our last day of school until after Oshogatsu (New Years)," Rei asked joyfully. "Maybe... There won't be any school so who wouldn't be," I stated. "Hideaki," Rei remarked.

There he was standing in the cold, his arms were crossed, his face was scowled, and his foot was ready to kick something. "I've waited 5 minutes in the cold. What is taking you guys so damn long?" Hideaki complained. "Sorry, I have icicles in my hair. It hurts," Rei joked. "Take a shower at night, like the rest of us," Hideaki suggested rudely. I raised my eyebrows at him and spoke of nothing. The three of us didn't say a word and continued walking down the sidewalk on our way to school. Of course, the silence wouldn't last very long. "Hideaki, do you remember it's your turn to take Kyo to the doctor?" Rei reminded him. "I haven't forgotten," Hideaki said confidently. "Great, the doctors..." I said quietly. I had been seeing a psychiatrist for the past few weeks. My friends and my teachers convinced my parents to have me see one. I thought it was a waste of time really, the doctor didn't believe a thing I told him.

"Kyo, it's time for your pills," Hideaki said, opening the cylinder plastic tubing that had all my pills for every single day of the week. My parents trusted him to be in charge of my medication and to make sure I took them every day. They knew I wouldn't take it and even if I were forced I would probably flush the damn things down the toilet. After our little trip to the woods, Hideaki had been a more responsible person. He got good grades, studied for every test, helped out around the school and basically did everything a suck-up would do. We all knew he had a secret stash of hentai underneath his mattress. Rei was still the same person I've known since elementary school. He was the steady beat that never changed. I was probably the dead weight they had to drag around; the black cloud that always trailed behind.

I opened my backpack and took out a water bottle. Steadily I twisted open the cap, hesitating to take it off. I took out the pills from the Friday section of the container. There were about 4 of them, all in different sizes. Then I tossed them all into my mouth and took a big sip out of the bottle. I tried to swallow them, but it was not so easy. The pills clung to the back of my throat and the roof of my mouth. With all my might, I tried to force them down but they wouldn't fall. So I took another sip and tried once again, but still it failed. "Did you take them yet?" Rei asked. I didn't respond. The pills were now all stuck in my throat, I felt like I was choking. My air supply started coming low; I felt hacks starting to erupt.

"Are you alright Kyo?" Rei asked as my face turned pale. I didn't respond back either. I held onto my neck and coughed very roughly. "Kyo, we don't have time to fool around," Hideaki said rudely. He raised his eyebrows at me then sighed at my stupidity. Then before I knew it, I received a huge smack on the back of my neck and like ease, the pills took its course. "Come on, we're going to be late," Hideaki suggested and took off walking at a very quick pace. The three of us speed walked our way until we reached the school building. Our classroom was on the second floor where the rest of the second year high school students were situated. We had three floors in our school building; each floor corresponding to our grade.

We walked up a flight of stairs to the second floor then headed to the locker room area. I spared no time for extra chit chat. I got straight to the point, by shoving all my stuff into my locker and grabbing all the needed materials. Rei was talking to Sonata near her locker, but I didn't make the effort to talk to them. I walked out of the locker room area, down the hallway, and headed into the classroom. The classroom was well decorated, looking quite festive with Christmas and winter decorations all throughout the room. I walked over to my seat which was now situated at the front of the classroom. I sat right next to the teacher's desk: it was a new effort to prevent me from sleeping in class. I guess it worked though, because I would always be caught right before I could even close my eyes.

I took out my sketchbook and flipped it to the drawing I had been working on for several days now. With the pencil in my right hand, I began shading the shadows. I was no artist; I couldn't really draw for shit. I just took my time and hoped it all would turn out well. Before the long class session had begun, I closed my sketchbook and tried my hardest to pay attention to the last lesson the teachers could cram in before break. I couldn't concentrate at all and my eyes began to get so weary. I could feel myself slowly drifting off into a slumber, but I really shouldn't sleep. My grades were already poor and the last time I fell asleep I woke up screaming from my nightmare.

At last the bell rang and it was time to switch teachers once again, while we get a small break from the classroom. Everyone walked out in an orderly fashion, but I however, remained in my seat. I didn't feel like getting up really. I wanted to finish my drawing, I had minor details left to finish, although I couldn't really call it art. Then Sonata, Rei, and Hideaki all walked up to me as I still sat there at my desk.
"Kyo, aren't you going out into the hallways?" Hideaki asked. "I don't really feel like it today," I answered. "Kyo come on, you haven't come during break for weeks now," Sonata pressured me. "Maybe the next break," I said to make them go away. "Alright then, see you later," Sonata waved good-bye.

The three of them stepped out of the classroom; I however, continued to draw. I don't know what's gotten me into drawing. I bought a sketchbook from the department store about a month or so ago. At first I started drawing stick figures, but each drawing got more elaborate one after another. I didn't quite see what was so thrilling about walking out in the loud and noisy hallway. The hallways were also filled with so many people, since all the other classes got breaks as well. I couldn't help it anymore; I had to go out there. I quickly closed my sketchbook and slowly walked out of the classroom.

My body began to shiver a bit as I made my way pass the doorframe. I felt a bit of an outcast standing in the noisy hallway alone. Everyone looked so enthusiastic and cheerful, while I stood there in isolation. I took several steps forward and walked out into the opening. I scanned down the dull gray hallway looking for my friends, but I couldn't see them anywhere. I kept walking down the corridor until I saw a huge group of people crowded around a bulletin board. Keeping my distant, I walked as near as possible without being seen.
From all the commotion, I concluded it was probably our term grades. We took all of our exams earlier this week and the majority of last week. All my tests were such a blur to me; I possibly couldn't imagine what grade I've gotten. I didn't even want to bother to look at my low ranking. Instead, I simply stood from the distance, amused at everyone's excitement.

There they were, the three of them, standing in the huge crowd of people. They moved closer to the bulletin board, and then scanned through the list of people for their names. I cupped my hand and brought it towards my ear. Carefully, I listened intently, trying to make out anything that they said.
"Did you find our names yet, Sonata?" Rei asked. "Nope not yet," She responded. "I'm right here," Hideaki told him, pointing to an area at the top of the list. "Wow rank 5! Congratulations Hideaki!" Sonata applauded him.
I snickered at the sight of his achievements. I couldn't stand him being at the top of the class. He wasn't your typical get-good-grades suck up, but he lost what he did have. His teenage years were now spent underneath a book. He would probably go onto college and get some high degree. Then get a good job in some high paying field, earn loads of yen each year, and then swim in his own wealth.

Deep down inside, under his scholarly skin, he would be himself. What good was money anyways? What good was money anyways? After all, currency is just some metal and paper. Money was the true weapon of mass destruction, separating the rich from the poor. It's a factor between living and dying. Those with money could afford good health, the rest would either get lucky or soon fall a victim. I shook it all off, I had to listen to more of the conversation.
"I found Kyo!" Rei shouted. He pointed near the bottom of the list, several names above the less intelligent kids. "Oh, no..." Sonata cried. "I know this isn't good at all. Don't tell Kyo, but I heard his parents and some of the staff talking. They want to transfer him to another school. His parents don't want to pay the tuition here, if he isn't going to do well," Rei announced to the group.

I bit my lip, the moment I heard him say that. I couldn't believe it. I felt like such a failure. How could I fall so low? How could I let myself sink to that level? It was bad enough I was standing behind a crowd of people, eaves-dropping on my own friends.
"I can't believe this. Hideaki, you should help Kyo out. Tutor him or something," Sonata suggested. "I don't know. It might not even help, I could be wasting my time," Hideaki said uninterested. "Hideaki, come on!" Rei pressured him. "I'll see what I can do. I worry about him sometimes. When did he ever get this bad to the point where he shelters himself to draw pictures of some zombie girl?" Hideaki questioned.

"Kyo needs help. We're his friends and it would be best to help him out. If we ignore his problems it will only get worse," Rei defended. "Well if it wasn't for your stupid forest idea, he would at least be somewhat sane," Hideaki complained. "Stop arguing you two! Why don't we go back into the classroom and check up on him?" Sonata suggested.
The three of them squeezed their way through crowd of people and then headed back to the classroom. I rushed my way back in and sat down in my seat before they could even see me. Then I took out my sketchbook and added the finishing touches. By then, they were already in the classroom and walking towards me. I added the last shading onto the drawing, then placed down my pencil, and pretended like I was surprised to see them.

"You're all back so soon," I said casually. "We got a little bored out there. So, what are you drawing there Kyo-kun?" Sonata asked. She grabbed the sketchbook and took a closer look at the picture. Within seconds of looking at the picture, her mouth dropped wide open as it hung on its very door hinge. She carefully placed down the sketchbook for everyone else to see and in astonishment the drawing awed them all. This was the first time they had ever really seen her. I drew a few pictures in the past, but they were merely stick figures with faces. "Is that really her?" Rei asked in excitement. "I don't know what to say. She's pretty um..." Hideaki answered a bit speechless. They all continued to stare at the drawing some more and before long others had walked in and crowded around as well.

Everyone in the homeroom shared the same classes and we would remain in the same classroom throughout the entire day. Only the teachers would move from class to class. Therefore everyone in the class knew about her. They crowded about and stared at the drawing, amazed by the details in her face.
"She's a monster," A girl whispered to another. "I would do her," A boy whispered to himself. "He's really lost it," Another girl whispered out loud.

I was starting to feel claustrophobic and self-conscious about their opinions. It wasn't long before all the students in the classroom crowded around me. I needed air. I needed to breathe. I needed to plug my ears. I needed to escape. Their voices surrounded me, one comment after another... Their striking words were like daggers going right through me. I started to get really hot and before long I started sweating. I felt the air around me get thinner each passing second, their hot breaths releasing large quantities of carbon dioxide. I would have shouted, I would have screamed, but would they really believe me? They thought I was already crazy; my voice would only amuse them.

"That's enough!" Sonata hollered. She gave them all a nasty look, which almost made them ashamed for what they were doing. They all slowly backed away from the desk, leaving me with the space and the air I so desired. "What's wrong with you people? You guys are so mean to Kyo. You all act like you never had a celebrity crush or had an obsession with some pixilated character," Sonata retorted to the entire class. They walked back to their seats, in shame. I was quite surprised Sonata said that. Her words were somewhat comforting and made me think somewhat about Arienette. "Thanks," I whispered to Sonata. She smiled back at me and I did the same.

The remainder of the school day was pretty much a drag. I did manage to pay attention though and throughout the hours, they all counted down the remaining time we had left in school. The last class finally ended and we all headed our way to the locker room area. We didn't have class jobs to do after school so we were free to go home until after Oshogatsu (New Year's).
"So are you taking Kyo to his doctor's?" Sonata asked Hideaki. "Yeah, we should probably leave now. We have to take the subway to get there," Hideaki answered. "Be careful now," Sonata reminded him. "Hideaki, Kyo, give me your backpacks, I'll take it to your house," Rei offered.

"Here," I said taking the backpack off my back and handing it to Rei. Hideaki did the same and the both of us were now emptied handed and in our school uniforms as we were about to venture out on the other side of the city. "Rei, that's really nice of you," Sonata smiled at him. "Bye," Hideaki said waving goodbye at the two of them. "Bye," I said the same. I crossed my arms and walked, slowly trailing behind Hideaki. We both headed out from the locker rooms. I didn't know what Hideaki thought of me now. I rather not imagine.

As we walked away from the locker area, I could still hear Sonata and Rei's voice from behind. "Why don't I walk home with you today? You're going to be all alone," I heard Sonata say. "Really? Thanks that would be so cool. Do you mind carrying Kyo's backpack? Hideaki's is filled with books and carrying three would be hard," Rei answered back. "I was going to offer to carry it anyways. I wouldn't want you to strain your back," I heard her say. Her voice was so faint; I could barely make out what she was saying. "Aww... you know..." Rei said, but after that we were so far in the distance I couldn't hear what they were saying anymore. I didn't even bother to look back; Hideaki would already kill me for walking two meters behind him.

I picked up the pace and trailed much closer behind him than before. We both continued to walk off the school campus, down the sidewalks, through the city, and down into the subway station. We took out our subway passes and boarded the train. There was only one seat left. I would have gladly stood, but I could already assume Hideaki would refuse so I sat down while Hideaki stood holding onto the metal pole. I glanced all around the perimeter of the train. Everyone was so wrapped up in their own business, keeping this awkward silence of the metal tracks scrapping against the wheels of the train. I wish I had my Nintendo DS; I was so bored just sitting there. My dog hadn't been fed in a while and I longed to beat the boss in Final Fantasy III.

"I'm sorry," Hideaki said out of nowhere. "For what?" I wondered. "Never mind. Do you want to play Solitaire on my phone?" He asked. "Yes!" I quickly stated. He pulled out his pink cell phone and handed to me. "I like your cell phone," I teased him. "Do you want to play or not?" He said a bit frustrated. I laughed and then opened up his phone and started playing the card game on the tiny screen. We always teased him about his pink phone, it was originally his mother's phone, but she gave it to him. We told him to get a case for it, but even so he refused. I continued clicking the tiny little buttons of the phone, the game was nearly impossible and I had no clue how people could see the letters of the cards on this tiny screen.

The train came to a full stop and at last we reached the other subway station. I handed Hideaki his pink cell phone back and waited for the train to come to a full stop. They opened the doors and we headed out to walk the block or so to the doctor's office. After we got there, I walked up to the receptionist and signed the clipboard to check in. There was someone else ahead of me, so I had to wait for a few minutes, probably more like an hour. Hideaki was sitting down on their couch reading some magazine. I walked over there and searched through the pile of magazines stacked on the table. I grabbed some video magazine; it looked a bit outdated. Nonetheless, I sat down and started reading.

It was pretty much silent other than the filtration of the fish tank in the corner of the room. Then the doorknob from outside the office started to turn, opening slowly and giving off that creaking sound that made people cringe on the spot. I was expecting some middle-aged man to walk through the door, but boy, were we surprised. Hideaki immediately set down his magazine the moment the door fully opened. The two of us both looked up in unison at the black haired beauty that emerged through the door. Her expression was plain, yet simple; there was much more hidden behind her straight face. She gently closed the door, and then walked over towards the other couch. Her dark brown eyes were reflected in the light and her hair propelled backwards as if it were being fanned.
"You're staring at her, aren't you? I thought you only liked that girl," Hideaki teased. "What girl?" I smiled back.

She reached the couch, and then cautiously sat down onto the rough gray furniture. She looked off into the distance ignoring the two of us. I could tell she was a bit shy from the way she was sitting. After about a minute of awkwardness, she stretched forward reaching for some random fashion magazine. I could tell that it didn't quite interest her; she had natural beauty that couldn't be bought in any store. I tried not to make too much eye contact. It was starting to get obvious that I was staring at her. Hideaki elbowed me a couple of times before I could enter some trance. I grabbed some random magazine off the glass table, which happened to be Josei Jishin, a weekly women's issue magazine.

Just as she started to take an interest in me, I heard ruffling from the backroom. One of the assistants soon came out and called for me. Hideaki gave me a big cheesy smile and waved as I got up and walked away. I really didn't feel like seeing the doctor right now. I wasn't in the mood to be bombarded with a million questions, and then get subscribed on another set of pills. I stared once more at the girl on the couch, then took a deep breath and then walked up to her.
"My friend thinks you're hot," I muttered out. Hideaki nearly fell out of his seat and the girl turned beat red. I smiled at her, and then walked into the room where I would be tortured with repetitive questions.

I eventually survived through the session, but unfortunately when I came back the girl was gone. We made our long way home, arriving home at such a late hour. Luckily the food was still hot and the rice wasn't too hard. I munched down until I was full and then headed into my bedroom and relaxed. And of course I fed my little doggie and beat the boss on my video games. Afterwards I got ready for bed then crawled into my sheets, nestling myself onto the warm bed. I slept well that night, probably the best I had ever slept in the longest time. I dreamt peacefully and woke up fully refreshed. I forgot all about her, her words from the previous night didn't even mean a thing.

Morning had come, then the afternoon, and then the evening. Still hadn't thought about her one bit. I lounged around the house, listening to my music, playing video games, watching TV, reading the latest issue of Shounen Jump and eating.
"Kyo, go take a shower; your friends will be here in 30 minutes," My mom ordered me at around 16:30.
I got into the bathtub and took a quick shower. I was pretty excited actually. I had no clue what we were doing and who was going. This was quite a surprised. I got out of the shower and dried myself, and then changed into clean clothes. I had some time still before they were going to come, so I took that comb which I never used in months and actually combed my hair. It hurt at first; I had so many little knots in my hair. And for the hell of it, I sprayed on some of my best cologne.

Then I heard the doorbell ring. I came rushing at the door, twisting the knob as fast as I could. I felt the adrenaline rushing at me. The thought of a night out with the guys sounded so appealing, I just hoped we don't go to the woods. The door flung open and I didn't see Hideaki anywhere.
"Wow someone's excited," Sonata said enthusiastically. She was standing a little too close to Rei, wearing a plaid skirt, a maroon sweater, black boots and a jeweled necklace. "Is Hideaki coming?" I asked. "No Kyo, just us three," He said smiling. "Where are we going?" I asked a bit confused. "You'll see," Rei winked.

I bit my lower lip. I hoped it wasn't anywhere crazy, the last of his crazy ideas got us lost in the woods. I suddenly wasn't so thrilled anymore. After hearing talk of them walking home together and seeing them stand a little too close, I didn't feel so welcome. I felt a bit jealous; of course nothing was seriously going on between them two. It was nothing to worry about. The three of us all walked down the familiar sidewalks. Luckily it was a mild night, it wasn't too cold at all so we didn't really need jackets. We kept walking for quite sometime now until we finally reached the city's central.

My eyes quickly caught sight of the urban beauty. The lights were all lit up and the streets were filled with so much color and radiance. I was mesmerized, it all sparkled and twinkled, creating this paradise of lights.
"It's amazing!" I said in awe. "Yeah I know," Rei replied. "Come on you two, we have dinner reservations," Sonata rushed us, as we stood staring at the lights. "Dinner reservations?" I smiled. "Yes, and you're paying," She teased. The three of us continued to walk past the assortment of lights until we had at last reached the restaurant.

"The Sakura?" I said a little surprised. The Sakura was a pretty pricey restaurant; I had only been here once before. Sakura meant cherry blossoms in Japanese and the restaurant was definitely quite a flower. We walked into the restaurant and took our seats. The waiter handed us a menu and I stared at the menu several times before I could come to a decision. I really didn't know who was paying for all of this; I felt a little bad. Good thing I brought my wallet along with me.

We ordered up our food, and then waited patiently for it to arrive. With time, our food came and we were ready to eat. I ordered the chicken teriyaki; Sonata had soba noodles and Rei had prawn and veggie tempura.
"So what's the occasion?" I asked as I dug my chopsticks into the rice. "Just a friends thing. It's almost Christmas, so I thought we should all celebrate," Sonata replied. "Kyo, stop complaining and enjoy it," Rei insisted. "But, where's Hideaki?" I asked. "He didn't want to come," Sontata hesitated to answer. "Oh," I said slowly. I stopped asking questions for the most part and concentrated on my meal, which was so good by the way.

The bill soon came afterwards. I didn't look at it. I felt really bad that the two of them had to pay for it all. I took out my wallet from my back pocket and pulled out some yen.
"Here," I said, feeling guilty for not paying. "Kyo, you didn't have to pay," Rei said refusing to take my money. Eventually they came to their senses and used it anyways. We walked out of the restaurant and headed into this open area of the central. It was sort of like a little plaza in the middle of the city. There was a fountain and benches and so many passing people.

The three of us all squeezed onto one bench and stared at the sight in front of us. The sounds of the fountain, the lights of the city and my friends sitting beside me; I didn't want to leave. I just wanted to sit there forever; life was too hectic as it is. These simple moments wouldn't last for long. Even in the tranquility something continued to bother me. Why were we here? There had to be a real reason for it, otherwise this was some date I didn't know about where the girl is dating two guys at once.
"So who's idea was this?" I asked. "It was Rei's idea," Sonata answered. "It was a good idea," I smiled at Rei. "Kyo, there's something we should tell you..." Rei spoke slowly.

I bit my lip, I was a little afraid of what he would say. Were they really going out and they brought me along because they didn't want me to feel bad? I felt so disgusted, so used, like some overused washcloth still being used after its very threads had fallen apart.
"We might not ever see you again, well at least in school that is," Rei continued but he was unable to finish his statement. He looked off into the distance, upset at the current situation. "The school wants to transfer you to another environment. Everyone thinks there is something wrong with you - the students, the staff, your parents, your doctor and even us a little. There's nothing we can do about it but hope you will get better. Maybe it will be for the best, you can finally get back on track and who knows, maybe we can have back the old Kyo we all knew and loved," Sonata announced to me.
|

I was honestly shocked and appalled. First of all there was nothing wrong with me. Second of all why does everyone think I'm crazy and third, what was she talking about this old Kyo? I'm still the same person; I never really changed honestly. So I've grown older, but does that really make me another person?
"I can't believe you just said that. You out of all people, you want me to leave," I answered. I didn't look at her; I just turned away and stared off at the merry people strolling by. "Kyo, she didn't mean it like that," Rei tried to defend her. "I'm sorry Kyo. We weren't going to tell you tonight, but you seemed too distracted to know," Sonata said as an excuse.

"Let's just forget about we discussed earlier. It's too nice of a night to be bickering like this," I answered. I turned back towards them, envious of their secret romance. It was so obvious now. How could I be so blind not to notice sooner? I remembered in the forest, when we walked she held my hand and in the other she held Rei's. I was so too blind to even notice, I was so caught up with my newly found love.
"I was going to wait until later, but I think now is a good time," Rei announced. He reached into his pocket and started shuffling around. He grabbed something and then pulled it out. It was tiny little box wrapped up with huge pieces of clear tape all around.
|

"This is for you," Rei said sweetly to Sonata. He stood up to give her the present, then put on his huge smile and waited patiently for her to open it. She pulled off the huge pieces of tape then unwrapped the present. I sighed inwardly at the sight of the box; I could already tell it was jewelry. Nonetheless I continued to watch as she opened the box revealing this luminescent necklace.
"Oh my god! Rei I love it!" Sonata stood up admiration. They both looked at each other, staring deeply into one another's eyes. Their bodies drew nearer and nearer and before long they had their arms well around each other. They hugged into this passionate squeeze; I couldn't bear to watch them. Sonata was all over Rei, like they've done this several times before.

Eventually both their arms came free and they innocently sat back down on the benches like nothing happened between them. I didn't have anything to give Sonata; I wasn't expecting gift-giving time to happen now.
"Don't think I forgot all about you Kyo," Rei said playfully. He started reaching into his shirt and dug all around. I gave him that sideways dog look. Seriously, what was he going to give me - His chest hair? Then he pulled out this thin gift, which appeared to be wrapped by a four-year-old. It was the worse hacked job I'd ever seen, the tape was everywhere and he at least had three different sets of wrapping paper.

"Merry Christmas!" He smiled at me, holding out the present. How could I accept his present? Sonata was supposed to be mine; she liked me first. I could have had her; I could have been with her. How could he do that to his best friend? He started to wink at me with his blue eyes, the same blue eyes that killed the vexed man. I felt bad; I couldn't take it.
"Kyo it's for you," He reminded me. Slowly I took the gift out his hand and examined it carefully. "How do I open this?" I asked a bit annoyed. "Just tear it open!" He exclaimed. I sighed deeply then hesitantly I pulled one of the strips of tape on the present. To my surprise, that had been the only piece of tape, it was wrapped all around the entire gift spiraling around the mysterious thin present.

Finally the tape was removed; leaving the wrapping paper separated and free to open. I pulled off the papers revealing the thin and mysterious gift. It was a photograph of Rei and me when we were little kids. The pictures stood behind clean glass, framed in a stained oak trim. I was quite surprised; I hadn't expected this at all. I held the picture in my hands and carefully stared at it. The two of us looked so young, free and happy. We were carefree children running around in the bright sunny sky. I was speechless; I didn't quite know what to say. They say it's the thought that counts.

"I know it's a really stupid gift, but I thought it would help you remember the good times," Rei explained. "Thanks, Rei. I like it," I answered pretending to be very enthusiastic about it. "Aww... Rei you're too much. You really didn't have to go through all this trouble you know," Sonata began to flatter him. "Ahem..." I began to clear my throat. "What's the matter Kyo?" Sonata asked, like nothing was wrong. "We better start heading back home. It's a long walk back. We wouldn't want anyone of us to get in trouble, now would we?" I answered. The two of them both sighed and stood up dragging their bodies along. I really was killing their fun, but I couldn't help it. I felt so jealous sitting there by the Christmas decors and the bright lights. It made me feel so innocent, yet they were so guilty.

The three of us walked and walked our way home. Through the crowded streets, then through the empty streets of the residential area and onto the sidewalks of our neighborhood, we walked. At last we reached my house, where they would drop me off and they would continue walking on their way since they lived further out.
"Thanks guys, I had a good time," I answered waving them goodbye. "Good night Kyo. Take care. Merry Christmas," Sonata waved good-bye. "Good night, sleep tight, don't let the zombies bite. Bye Kyo," Rei waved goodbye as well. "Bye you two," I said giving them a wink. And with those words walked off into my house and got ready for bed and then slept the night away.

I woke up well that morning. Once again I didn't have a bad dream, I was beginning to wonder if it was just good luck or a sign of something soon to come. I lounged around the house for the majority of the Christmas Eve day. My mom was cooking ham, which my dad received from oseibo (end of the year present) from his co-worker. It was an end of the year tradition to give gifts to your co-workers, bosses, teacher, relatives, etc. Then we had our Christmas cake sitting on the countertop, which was ordered out at a bakery. The hours continued to drag on and on until night had soon approached.
I was sitting on the floor as bored as ever. I was dressed a bit formal, wearing black dress pants, a black collared shirt and my festive red tie. I started to feel really lonely sitting there in the empty room.

That's when I began to remember her once again. She was everything I dreamed for right down to the looks and the personality. I had grown more curious about her whereabouts. I wondered what happened to her, she was so beautiful and polite and yet she died at such a young age. I wondered what the cause was. I wondered if she had someone special when she was living or if she was like me, a hopeless romantic seeking true love. I had to know more about her; I had to go back to the forest. I felt like I was trapped in this ceaseless room to rot in boredom. It was Christmas Eve and I was lonely, single and just needed to be hugged. I had to escape, but how?

The only door leading outside was in the front, but my parents were in the kitchen and the living room. There was no possible way they would allow to me leave. I closed my eyes, thinking of a possible exit out of this room, but nothing came in mind. I sighed in frustration and then pounded gently onto the ground. Then my escape door hit, like an apple falling down from the tree.
"The window," I whispered out loud.

"Kyo, it's time for dinner!" My mother called out. However, there was no response. A minute later she tried once more. "Kyo, it's time for dinner. Come on!" She shouted out. Still there was no response. "Kyo, get out of your room it's time to eat!" She called out once again. Once again there was no response. "Could you please get Kyo?" My mother asked my father. He nodded his head and then walked towards my door and slid it open. The room was empty and the window was wide open. Gusts of cold air blew into the room, leaving my father puzzled.

By then I was already near the woods. After climbing out the window, I darted off running out of the backyard and straight down the sidewalks. The Takamara Woods were calling me; I could feel my blood boil in anticipation of reaching it. Somehow I felt that tonight was the night, the night where both worlds once again intertwined. Last time it was Halloween, this time it was Christmas. I crossed my fingers and only hoped that it would be true. I kept running and running as fast as my legs could take me. Eventually I stopped running and then took a breather. My lungs felt like they were going to collapse on me any minute now. Carefully I stopped to rest, then inhaled and exhaled until I could feel my lungs once again.

I looked around; I had no clue where I was or if I was even headed in the right direction. The area looked so unfamiliar to me. I was probably somewhere in the outskirts of the city. I looked down and noticed I wasn't wearing a jacket. My arms were bare and were bound to freeze if I just stood here. I took a deep breath and started jogging my way there, pacing myself so I wouldn't tire out so easily. I kept jogging and jogging until at last I saw the woods. From the distance I could see the huge gatherings of the trees. The image got clearer and clearer until eventually I walked besides the ubiquitous timbers. The woods looked so dark and eerie from within. Luckily I brought a flashlight with me, which rested inside my pocket. I went down the short path to the entrance of the Takamara Woods.

I brought out the flashlight from my pocket and flicked the switch to turn it on. Instantly the beams of light illuminated the dark path from within. "This is it, there's no turning back," I said out loud. I bit my lower lip then slowly stepped inside the forest. Immediately my head became filled with the horrible flashbacks, I hoped never to remember. The horrifying zombies chasing me, the hole with the dead corpse and Hideaki nearly dying in front of me - those were the memories I chose not to remember. I shook it all off and proceeded deeper into the woods. Snow started to stick to the bottom of my shoes. I was quite surprised that the snow hadn't managed to melt in here. The woods must have been so dense that the sunshine could not reach it.

I continued walking and walking passing series of frightening trees that all looked as if they were going to grab me. It felt so awkward walking through the woods alone; it was such a journey when we ventured out on Halloween. I held the flashlight tightly and shone it in all directions, lighting up the darkness ahead of me. On my left side I noticed the turn, which lead up to the graveyard. I was so near now; I could taste the excitement in my mouth. I picked up the pace and dashed off like Rei did when he saw those gray blurs. I kept running and running until I had reached the peak of my destination.
Once I came closer, the gray blurs soon looked like tombstones, I stopped running and carefully walked aware of the surroundings about me. Luckily I had extra batteries in my other pocket, just incase I was to run out. I was ready to shine the light in those monsters eyes.

"Come out, come out, where ever you are!" I shouted out. However, everything remained silent. Not a single rustle in the bushes or a thump of a footstep. I sighed deeply then walked up to the tombstones and sat down on a long bench-like tomb. I sat down and waited for nearly forever. Nothing was coming out and I had grown hungry with each passing minute. I started to regret ever coming back to the woods in the first place. What the hell was I thinking? The whole thing was probably just a hoax; I wouldn't be surprised if they were paid actors. I wanted to go home and eat and then afterwards, eat Christmas cake. My mom really did order the best cake from the best bakery. And then later on in the night I'll go to sleep and hope Santa was good to me.

I really was a fool to come out here and think there would be zombies. I probably blew my chances of not getting transferred to another school. After this stunt right here, my parents would really think I was seriously mental. What was I doing here really? It was Christmas Eve and I should be with my family and not sitting on top of this stone where some dead guy was buried underneath. I jumped off the tomb and then started walking away slowly. I paused for a minute and remembered the one place I had forgotten about.

Unhurriedly I walked over to the bushes and continued to pass my way through until I had reached my old hiding spot. To my surprise, the hole was gone. Only its gravestone remained in what was once the hole. I stomped my foot several times in anger. I couldn't believe me, of all people, would believe in such foolish things. I turned around and headed back home. I kept thinking of a good excuse for why I snuck out of the house. Still I couldn't think of anything. The only probable thing I could think of was to buy them Christmas presents and say I forgot to buy them. I crossed through the bushes and took one last look at the graveyard before I left. I sighed heavily then turned around with my head down looking towards the ground.

Then I heard it, footsteps from afar. I bit my lip; perhaps I spoke too soon. The footsteps got louder and louder within each passing second, until the figure emerged. With the flashlight in my right hand I shone the light onto the creature. From the long hair, the creature was obviously female. She looked absolutely disgusting, her skin was fairly dirty and unclean and she had sewn scars all through her face. Her swollen eyes bulged out in horror and hair was a mess, hanging in all directions. She walked closer towards me, sounding off frightening cries of death with each passing second. She kept walking until she stood nearly a breath away from me. She looked at me strangely examining my face carefully. I simply shone the light in her eyes hoping that she would run away like the rest of the zombies.

However, she didn't budge at all. The light didn't seem to affect her one bit. Her dark plum lips opened up slightly and then her mouth began to flap around.
"Stop shinning the light in my eyes, child." The woman spoke. Immediately I lowered my right arm, shining the light away from her direction. "That's better. What are you doing here, child? Shouldn't you be home with your family," She asked again. Her voice was shattering. She sounded like one of those evil witches in fairy tales. "Nothing. I was on my way out," I replied, hoping she would let me go. "A fine young man like you shouldn't be out here at night. The cemetery isn't a playground," She complained.

"Are you a zombie?" I came out and asked. I couldn't bear to hold in the suspense, I immediately asked, even if it was rude. "Do I look dead to you? I'm merely a witch; I'm a necromancer if you care to be exact. They call me the Coffin Seller. I'm the head mistress of this cemetery, the grounds keeper as well," The woman explained. "Oh, well I'd better get going. I wouldn't want to miss out on the Christmas cake," I said wanting to go home. "What is it that you are seeking, child? You obviously came here for a reason," She asked placing her long cold and dirty fingers on my chin and rubbing it. "Don't touch me!" I shouted. "Sensitive aren't we? You are seeking for a girl. My heart quivers in delight, child," She continued on.

"Maybe," I spoke slowly. "You want to see her don't you? Perhaps she died fairly recent. No wait she died very long ago. You came to pay your respect towards her, didn't you?" She continued to question me. To be honest, I felt like blinding her with my flashlight and making an escape. She was worse than my psychiatrist with the questioning, but somehow I felt she was leading me onto something. She seemed to know quite a lot about my situation. "I came to see a girl, but I'm done now. I want to go home," I answered. "I can take you to this girl, if you'd like. What's this girl's name again? Ari... Arienette is it?" She began to offer. "How do you know her name? How can I see her?" I asked, suddenly I was all interested in what she had to say. "If you haven't forgotten I'm a witch, you know," She reminded me.

"Can I please see her?" I asked immediately. "Of course you can child. Of course it won't be free. It will cost you," Her voiced started to taunt me. "How much? I don't have much money left in my wallet and I don't have any credit cards," I responded. "Such a funny boy, I don't take cash, credit or check," She responded. "Then what do you take?" I asked. "Your soul," She answered, eying my body. "My soul?" I asked once again to make sure I had heard clearly. "Yes, your soul. Don't worry; you won't die if you lose it. Take your time child, it's your soul after all," She clarified everything.

I bit my lip. How could I sell my soul to this woman? She was hideous, creepy, and looked very unreliable. Was my love for her really that true? Was she worth giving up my soul? After all what was a soul really? Was it like the episode of The Simpsons, where Bart sells his soul to Milhouse? Could I really just write it on a piece of paper? I thought long and hard about the question and finally I came to a satisfying conclusion. I bit my lip once again and I opened my mouth and carefully said my decision.
"I...
