"But mom, I'm going to be late!" I cried out in my fairy pixie costume. It was the night of Halloween and my mom had been giving me the same lecture for the past 10 minutes.
"I am old enough to go out trick-or-treating by myself!"

"Trixie, you are only 10 years old. And you may think you are old enough, but you need to remember to be careful and always to stay with your friends!"
You see, my mom wasn't taking me trick-or treating this year since she was going to a costume party. This explains why she is dressed a little more, revealing then usual. Trust me, her usual attire consists of long skirts, blouses and glasses. Ever since Daddy left us a year ago, my mom has been a little lonely and looking for a new guy. I guess she thinks this will help.

"Don't eat anything until I can check it, and don't stray too far from home." My mom continued on.
I sighed. "Mom I really need to get going. My friends are going to be here any second!"
Ding Dong!

In the doorway, my 3 friends best friends were standing there happily. My best girl-friend Mikala was dressed as a soccer player. Davis was wearing his favorite pirate outfit, and shy boy Henry decided to dress up tough for the holiday.
"Are you ready?" Mikala said to me. I grabbed my trick-or-treat bag and gave my mom a quick kiss. "Bye Mom! I won't stay out late!"

We had a pretty successful night. We each got 10 Kit-Kats, 20 pieces of gum, 7 big Hershey bars, 30 Jolly Ranchers, 2 big swirly lollipops, along with a ton of other goodies. The only real downside was when we went to our teacher's, Mrs. Henderson's, house. We got a pencil, an apple and a 10-minute speech on the value of healthy foods. Let's just say we got out of there pretty quick.

Then, we got to the house at the end of the street. The streetlights weren't down here and it was pretty dark.
This was the house of the supposed vampires. No one has ever seen them during the day, and they are only seen comimg and going at night. There is a certain air of coldness around the property and as soon as we stepped onto their territory we felt a chill. My mom has told me not to believe those stories. That there are no such thing as vampires. But if she can avoid it, she does not drive past their house.

You could say Mikala and Henry were a little less then thrilled about the idea of going to this house.
"We have a lot of candy already guys." Henry protested. "Yea!" Mikala added. "They probably wouldn't even give out anything that good ."
|
| |
Created: 10.13.2008 - Updated: 10.13.2008
Davis was very excited about it however.
"Are you kidding me?! Vampires hand out the best candy! My older brother Tim came here once and there was some girl who gave out the biggest chocolate bars ever! How can we not afford to go here?!"
|
| |
Created: 10.13.2008 - Updated: 10.13.2008
I sighed. I needed to encourage the others. "Davis, there is no such thing as vampires. And guys, there is nothing to be afraid of! It will all be over with in a few minutes. But it is true that they give out really big candy bars here. And no one goes here so they are probably loaded with candy!"
|
| |

Mikala and Henry still looked unsure.
"Okay... I guess." Mikala muttered biting her lip. Henry still looked petrified. "The lights aren't even on. They probably aren't even home."
|
| |

Davis grinned from ear to ear. "Of course they're home!" He made his voice a little spookier. "They are just waiting for victims to ... BITE!"
Henry jumped.

We walked up the driveway. Well, me and Davis walked and Mikala and Henry were practically dragged. All of a sudden, there was a quick movement in the buses...
|
| |

And Henry freaked out. He jumped back and knocked into Mikala who was quivering behind me. Davis was cracking up, almost falling down to the ground.
I rolled my eyes. "Henry, are you serious?"

A little black cat went sprinting past Henry, who nearly peed himself. "Henry it is just a cat!" I was trying to calm him down, but it was kind of hard since he was shaking like a salt shaker.
"Are you kidding Trixie?" Henry gasped. "That was the size of a giant panda!"

Just then, a swarm of bats came flying out of the roof of the house. There must of been a hundred of them, and they were all screaching at the top of their lungs.
|
| |

We stood covering our ears. Even Davis was a little scared by the bats flying out, but he will never admit to it. After about 2 minutes, the last bat managed it's way out of the house. We straightened up a little bit.
|

I noticed Mikala wasn't there. "Hey, where did Mikala go?"
We all looked around and then we heard a little peep.
|
| |

"I'm...I'm over he-he-here." Mikala stuttered. She came out from behind a tree.
"I'm sorry I'm such a scardey cat. I'm probably ruining all of your fun. I should probably just go home and you guys can go to the vampires house without me..."
|
| |
Created: 10.13.2008 - Updated: 10.13.2008
I went over to her and gave her a hug.
"Mikala your my bestest friend!" I said. "We aren't going to leave you. And I promise that nothing bad will happen. It will probably just be some guy dressed as a vampire. I won't let him get you."
|
| |
Created: 10.13.2008 - Updated: 10.13.2008
Mikala sighed.
"Ok I'lll go. But I will NOT be ringing that doorbell!"
It was obvious she didn't want to go, but I don't think she wanted to walk home by herself in the dark more.
|

The two of us hurried back to Henry and Davis, who was a little more than anxious to get up to the house.
We managed our way up the stone path. Each step we took seemed to send a crackling through the stones, as if to tell the master of the house that we are here.
|

After what seemed like an eternity, the four of us made it to the front porch. I turned around to face the athlete, pirate, and tough guy.
Ok, so we need smeone to ring the doorbell..." I started.

Before I could even finish the sentence, Mikala and Henry were already freaking out.
"I already said I'm not doing it!" Mikala practically shouted, throwing up her hands. "And there is no way I'm doing it!" Henry stepped back. "There might be vampire cooties on the door and I want to live to see age 11!"
|
| |
Created: 10.13.2008 - Updated: 10.13.2008
Davis, of course, was more than eager to do it.
"I'll do it!" He excitedly said. "I can't wait to tell my brother Tim that I rang the doorbell at the vampires house!"
|

He pushed me aside and ran up to the door. He pounded on the door a few times and ran the doorbell, which sent eeire music running through the air.
|
| |

Even I was starting to get scared. Me, Mikala, and Henry, backed up a little bit. Davis however was cheering on and couldn't wait for the door to open. I have no idea how he wasn't scared and was actually looking forward to this. But I have to admit, it was kind of an adrenaline rush.
Then after a minute or so of Davis whooping and shouting, the door cracked open...
|
| |

And a vampiress stepped out into the cool night air! A real living vampire!
She had a dark red dress on, and was hissing at us. we caught a glimpse of her glistening teeth that seemed to be the sharpest things on the Earth. She had blue skin that looked otherwordly. There was no way this was a costume!
|
| |
Created: 10.13.2008 - Updated: 10.13.2008
We all let out a high pitched scream. It felt like the whole neighborhood could hear us. And I think that Davis was screaming the loudest.
And then we did the only other thing we could think of doing...
|
| |
Created: 10.13.2008 - Updated: 10.13.2008
We hightailed it out of there!
"Trixie!" Mikala shouted as running. "You promised nothing would be there!" "Blame my mother!" I shouted back. "She said there is no such thing as vampires!" "Be quiet and run faster! She might follow us!" Davis screeched. "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" Henry let out.
|
| |
Created: 10.13.2008 - Updated: 10.13.2008
Back at the house, the vampiress was still hissing, obviously happy with her scare.
Behind her, a little girl was walking into the hallway, barely holding onto a large pumpkin. "Mommy, did you scare away those peope?"
|
| |
Created: 10.13.2008 - Updated: 10.13.2008
She sighed and kicked the ground. "Those were the first people to come by tonight! I even made this neat pumpkin to hold the big chocolate bars..."
|

"Oh I'm sorry honey." The countess said to her daughter. "They were already scared out of their minds, I just needed to push them over the edge."
The count came into the room. "Darling, we really need to work on your people skills."
|
| |
Created: 10.13.2008 - Updated: 10.13.2008
The countess smiled. "I know." Her red eyes twinkling. "I will try to work on that for next year. Those kids are probably telling everyone not to come here."
|
| |
Created: 10.13.2008 - Updated: 10.13.2008
The little girl took out a bag of chocolate and started chowing down. "Well since no on else is going to eat this, can I?"
