Using The Application

Once The Sims 2 application has been installed, the player can start a game. After a brief description of the game, the player can select a Sim. Following the selection of their Sim, the game will begin and the player will be given a brief tutorial. The player can save their game at any time.

Pre-Game

When the player first loads the application they will be given the option to load a saved game or start a new one. If the player wants to start a new game over another, they will be prompted that the previous save will be lost.

Introduction

The player is then taken to an introduction screen that briefly describes the premise of the game, before moving on to the Select-A-Sim or Create-A-Sim screen.

Here, the player can chose a Sim, each with their own star sign. Once a Sim has been selected, the game begins and a small tutorial is launched.

Tutorial

The tutorial begins by explaining the controls, the Need Bars and Wants. The player is then left to fulfill a Want (in this case to "have something to eat") and the result of the Hunger need bar filling up is explained.

A neighbor Sim comes to the door. The player is told how to navigate the cursor to the door to invite the neighbor Sim in. The last part of the tutorial deals with teaching the player how to socialize. Then the game begins and the player has full control.

Sim Need Management

The player can enjoy the challenge of managing their Sim's needs and fulfill their Sim's wants. Needs are fulfilled by using objects - the Hunger Need, for example, is fulfilled by using the fridge. There are also objects which can be bought. These tend to satisfy a Sims needs more than the basic objects in the house at the start of the game. The Sim Emporium will call as and when these new objects are available.

Skills

Skill building is essential for game progression. A higher skill in Cooking, for example, can lead to Chef jobs. Also it lessens the likelihood of fire when cooking. There are 5 Skills to build - Cooking, Logic, Creativity, Charisma and Body.

Upgrades

As the game progresses, the player will be called by Sims Construction many times to offer to build extensions to the house. These will create new rooms and allow for more objects to be bought.

Work

Buying objects and having a job are essential. The Sim starts at the bottom rung of the ladder and through fulfilling Wants and meeting new Sims, is offered new jobs with a certain skill criteria. Some jobs also require the Sim to have a certain amount of friends as well.

Socializing

Socializing with other Sims can lead to friendships, romance and even marriage. Moreover, some Sims know about jobs so socializing is essential. Having a certain number of friends is also a prerequisite for certain jobs.
